Celebrity Dish: Serving up the gossip you should know!

Obviously, this website is dedicated to all things film – the kind you sit in a darkened theater (home or otherwise) to watch, usually with a bucket of popcorn.

But this time of year, another motion picture format – the small screen kind – comes to the forefront. September is when television starts its season, and it’s always something to look forward to seeing. There’s a lot to love about fall TV. This is when new shows debut, and the viewing audience has a direct say in whether or not they continue to air. It’s always intriguing to see which actors are doing what shows as well as what types of shows are being offered. And then there are the returning favorites. Sometimes there is a cliffhanger when the shows leave us in May. Other times, it’s just nice to see people (on the small screen, of course) you haven’t seen in a few months.

Here are a few of the things I’m looking forward to this season. But don’t take my word for it. Check them out for yourself.

• Hellcats: OK, I will admit that I’m slightly older (but not that much, really) than the CW’s typical audience. But I want to check this show out for one reason – Gale Harold. The actor, who was last seen on Desperate Housewives, plays a crime-solving law professor for a few episodes in the series. It’s already debuted, and Harold’s character appears beginning in the third episode.

• Desperate Housewives: Mike and Susan moved off Wisteria Lane, making room for someone new to stir up the drama. Rumor has it that there will be a switched-at-birth storyline this year. This show is a great nighttime soap for those of you not home during the day.

• Grey’s Anatomy: Remember those tears you shed when the last season ended? Yeah, there will probably be more. And my fingers are crossed for Owen and Christina.

• Boardwalk Empire: This is HBO’s latest venture, and the premise sounds more than interesting. “At the dawn of Prohibition in the 1920s, political boss and racketeer Nucky Thompson rules crime-ridden Atlantic City.” Steve Buscemi will be fantastic, I’m sure.

• The Event: This might be worth checking out. It seems like a cross between 24 and FlashForward. Will you be watching?

• Modern Family: With Emmy wins under its belt, this show can only get better. And it was really good to begin with!

• The Office: It’s Steve Carell’s last season. That’s reason enough to pay your respects.

• Dancing with the Stars: Come on, you know you want to watch a show that pits Bristol Palin and The Situation against each other…

  1. MODERN FAMILY is going to rule, once again. It will prove that it’s the best comedy on TV.

COMMUNITY, I can’t wait for it to come back. Very underrated.

GLEE, I hope doesn’t jump the shark this season with all their guest appearances.

BOARDWALK EMPIRE looks fantastic. Buscemi has always been a favorite of mine. Michael Pitt looks good here as well.

For some reason I’m also looking forward to THE DEFENDERS. Jerry O’Connell has not let me down on any of his work I’ve seen him in. His shows are usually pretty good as well, SLIDERS and MY SECRET IDENTITY. were both great.

  2. Why don’t I care more about sitcoms? Good stuff regardless, Krista.

  3. I’m not really into sitcoms either.

But I’m looking forward to Boardwalk Empire, that cast is loaded.
