20 Genre Sequels That Will NEVER Happen
Hollywood loves a good franchise, especially now a days. But over the last few years, where seemingly everything is getting a sequel, whether it’s theatrical or direct-to-video, there’s still some films, for which sequels were being considered, fans can probably say they’ll never going to happen.
Obviously, films like Scream 4 and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of Crystal Skull, prove we should never say never, and the confirmation of a Jurassic Park 4 (here) recently just proved that theory. Killer Film is quite sure that these 20 genre sequels will never happen.
AvP 3

The Brothers Strause had such a horrible time on AvP: Requiem, they told me they personally would never come back (here), but the film ended with a cliffhanger and it made money. But with Prometheus resurrecting the Alien franchise and Predators doing just that for that franchise, an AvP 3 seems incredibly unlikely.
Evil Dead 4

If you want more new Ash, read comic books or play with an Ash toy, because Bruce Campbell will never, ever, play Ash again for Sam Raimi…especially now with the remake announcement (here). Sorry Evil Dead fans, you’ll never see a 4.
Ghostbusters 3

Will this rumor just die already? A Ghostbusters 3 has been talked about for like a decade and continues to make headlines (here and here), but they guys are old, Bill Murray doesn’t care anymore, and nor do most fans. If anything, I smell a reboot soon.
Friday the 13th – Part 2

Platinum Dunes hinted at an awesome sequel to Marcus Nispel’s remake (here), yet a few too many Friday the 13ths have come and passed, and no new sequel. You would think just one more, to make 13 movies in the franchise would be a no-brainer, but with the failure to get a Rosemary’s Baby and Birds remake off the ground, Platinum Dunes has all but left the horror business, so this sequel is as dead as a horny teenager.
Star Wars – Episodes VI-IX

Just sayin’.
Alien 5

Sigourney Weaver continues to talk about reprising her character of Ripley (here), but a fifth Alien film will never happen with Weaver, because, Ridley Scott is given the franchise some credibility again in Prometheus.
Predators 2

It might be risky saying this sequel will never happen, but if it does, it’ll be another reboot. Robert Rodriguez is way too busy with more Spy Kids, Machete, Sin City 2, and other projects to care about our Jamaican alien friend.
Pulp Fiction 2/Vegas Brothers

It’s been like 7 years or more, since Quentin Tarantino has last talked about this combination of John Travolta’s character from Pulp Fiction and Michael Madsen’s character from Reservoir Dogs for a prequel. Hasn’t the wait for a Kill Bill 3 proved anything yet?
Seven 2

Yes, they actually considered a sequel to this brilliant serial killer flick from David Fincher, a sequel that would focus on Morgan Freeman, minus Brad Pitt and David Fincher. Boo. Wishful thinking. Plus, Eight sounded stupid.
Independence Day 2

Roland Emmerich will probably return to blowing up the world, just not in a sequel to his mega-hit ID4 (here). Will Smith is too busy, and seriously, no one cares for an ID4 2.
Rambo V

Even though the studio pimped this film at Cannes, against Stallone’s wishes, it’ll never happen, especially if you have seen Rambo. Stallone has repeatedly said there’s nothing left to say about John Rambo, unlike his Rocky character. With Expendables 2 and original projects forthcoming, he’s right.
The Incredibles 2

I think Pixar has learned their lesson from Cars 2. Just stop before you hurt yourself, and Brad Bird has gone live-action.
Wanted 2

This is easy: Jolie is too busy; Morgan Freeman is too busy; James McAvoy is Professor X now; and Mark Millar talks too much (here).
Freddy vs. Jason 2/vs. Ash

The Vs film opened at number one and stayed there for two weeks straight, unexpectedly. Fans love these characters, and Freddy vs. Jason was good fun. There were talks of a sequel, since the film was a huge hit at the box office, but time has come and gone and remakes ruined this chance.
Serenity 2

Firefly was a kick-ass show. The fans helped get Serenity made and that was a good movie, yet it didn’t make squat at the box office, something only Hollywood cares about, and with Joss Whedon going big time with The Avengers, this franchise is over. Sorry Browncoats.
The Godfather 4

A book was written, but since The Godfather Part III has become a pop culture joke, I doubt if Francis Ford Coppola would dare to come back and no other film maker would dare to follow in his footsteps. Plus, who would want this?
Inception 2

Don’t be stupid. Inception made money because it was a fresh, original idea. The story was self-contained, a beautiful one-off. Despite rumors (here), an Inception 2 is the stupidest thing Nolan could do following his final Batman.
Hellboy 3

I’m so sick of hearing about this. Not because I don’t want it or because I don’t like the franchise, heck, I love Hellboy, but Ron Perlman isn’t as keen as to do it again and Guillermo Del Toro is busy with his 4,892 projects we report weekly. So despite rumors (here, here, here, here amongst others), a third Hellboy won’t ever happen.
Kick-Ass 2: Balls to the Wall

Matthew Vaughn’s Mark Millar adaptation was really great. It made money on Blu-ray/DVD sales, far more than it did theatrically, but Millar’s been too kind in stating a sequel is gearing up. Plus, he’s been slow to write these comics, and Vaughn’s busy with mutants now – and that did just okay at the box office, despite critical acclaim. So ignore the time-wasting rumors (here, here, and here).
Saw VIII

I love Saw. Lionsgate Films loved Saw. But truthfully, no matter how vacant Halloween has been since Saw 3D, no matter the box office records for this franchise, it is done. Capital D, capital O, capital N, and capital E. If Saw returns, it’ll be some sort of reboot or prequel.
So many potential projects, so many dashed dreams from fans. What sequels you think will or won’t ever get made? Thoughts? Comment below!

Sev3n should remain a stand alone film
