SDCC ’10: Get ready to be baptised in action with Priest 3D

Scott Stewart and Paul Bettany worked together on this past January’s religious thriller Legion from Screen Gems. The film was a hybrid combining small portions of the horror genre with behometh amounts of action. They have re-teamed for Priest 3D and are joined by fan favorites Brad Dourif [Child's Play], Karl Urban [Star Trek], and Maggie Q [Balls of Fury] in the adaptation of the TokyoPop comic that wil be released on May 13, 2011.

Killer Film hit the press line where the members of the cast talked about Priest 3D. I will admit that I was cynical about the movie after it was converted to 3D, but the teaser trailer that premiered in Hall H silenced me and the hard to please Comic-Con crowd with flashfire imagery that rocked the house.

“PRIEST, a post-apocalyptic sci-fi thriller, is set in an alternate world — one ravaged by centuries of war between man and vampires. The story revolves around a legendary Warrior Priest (Paul Bettany) from the last Vampire War who now lives in obscurity among the other downtrodden human inhabitants in walled-in dystopian cities ruled by the Church. When his niece (Lily Collins) is abducted by a murderous pack of vampires, Priest breaks his sacred vows to venture out on a quest to find her before they turn her into one of them. He is joined on his crusade by his niece’s boyfriend (Cam Gigandet), a trigger-fingered young wasteland sheriff, and a former Warrior Priestess (Maggie Q) who possesses otherworldly fighting skills.”

  1. Legion was one of the most disappointing films of 2010.

With cast they had assembled and the premise, it had the potential to be a major kick ass horror/action film.

Bettany is a talented actor and was believable as an action hero.

Hope he fares beter with PRIEST.

  2. I thought Legion was goofy B-movie fun. Priest looks decent, minus the 3D.
