Interview: Alexi Wasser (Screamfest)
After years of waiting, Cabin Fever 2: Spring Fever finally received its Los Angeles premiere at the Screamfest Horror Film Festival at Mann’s Chinese Theater. I had the pleasure after the screening to talk shop with the leading lady from the film – Alexi Wasser.
Jason Bene: Cabin Fever 2 is one of the bloodiest movies I’ve seen in some time, which is an absolute compliment coming from a horror fan.
Alexi Wasser: Oh my God, that is so good. I love doing it – I like being covered in blood. I don’t know why.
Jason Bene: How much blood was used?
Alexi Wasser: I heard it was hundreds of gallons. All I know is my hair got so stained from the blood that taking it out damaged it  - which is why I cut my hair off and dyed it brown to make it look healthy because it was so fucked up.
Jason Bene: Are you a fan of the original Cabin Fever directed by Eli Roth?
Alexi Wasser: I am – I love horror movies in general. There are bits where Cabin Fever 2 looks like an homage to Carrie and early Sam Raimi where the camera is on the ground and people are coming towards us in the forest, and I try to get Noah up and the shot pulls back, which is really reminiscent of Evil Dead. Ti West made me watch a bunch of scary movies to get in the mood for this. This is supposed to be like a mix between an 80’s Molly Ringwald kind of romantic love triangle movie, which I fucking love more than anything. Then all of the sudden a virus thing happens and were interrupted by the virus and it confuses the whole romantic comedy aspect.
Jason Bene: What do you having coming out next?
Alexi Wasser: I did a movie called 0s & 1s which is a cool indie movie about kids in their early 20’s. I also did a scary movie about a virus called Growth that I shot on Martha’s Vineyard and is directed by Gabe Cowan. Then there is a movie called Choose, which is a psychological thriller with Kevin Pollack and Bruce Dern that was shot in New York. It’s like a really great episode of Law & Order: SVU and it’s about a killer who gives his victims a choice of how there going to die, it’s all irony on how the person is going to be murdered.
Jason Bene: It’s sounds like you’ve been really busy?
Alexi Wasser: I’ve been really busy and I have this blog called IMBOYCRAZY.COM that is being developed into a TV show. I’m giving you a sticker. Give it to your wife, even though she shouldn’t be boy crazy because she has you.
Killer Film would like to thank Alexi Wasser for being so generous with her time and the good people at Lionsgate for unspooling a film that I’ve been wanting to see for some time.
