The Guild: Season Four – DVD Review

The Show:

This time, I’m going to try something a tad different. The Guild was something that was very difficult for me to review simply because I’m a new-comer to the show. After a strenuous amount of research into the past seasons I was able to somewhat catch myself up to everything that is going on. From what I can gather, compared to the previous season, season four went a little more conservative. There are more than a few plots involving “Codex” and her attempts to date “Fawkes.” This would undoubtedly set the tone for the rest of the season. Also, there happens to be a surprise guest appearance from The Big Bang Theory show.

In terms of the season itself, it’s not exactly the greatest point for a new viewer to get hooked on the show. There was a lack of attention-catching plots because of how far it is in seasons. Not all is bad in my eyes; the characters do deliver that nerdy comedy that is in high demand as of recent. The season finale was also a nice addition because it allowed the viewer to know how the game itself. Also, there are definite stand-out characters in each season that seem to step into the spotlight. This season was definitely set up for “Fawkes” (Will Wheaton) to shine. Although “Codex” (Felicia Day) is still the main character, her attempts to date “Fawkes” gives him the opening to show more of his sarcasm and wit that we all hate to love. The supporting characters were also given a fair share of face time in their respective episodes and I was rather pleased with their performances in the roles given. It served as the necessary contrast to the main characters’ plots.

Now, here’s the hard part, honestly I have to say whether I would watch this show past my experience after this encounter. That is still a 50/50 decision. I was not held at the TV screen to where I refused to turn the channel, but there were moments where I enjoyed the potential I saw. Jury is still out on this one. In conclusion, I was shown some good directions, but I will admit I came in at a bad time with the show coming off a hot season. I will report back with more details, but for now, The Guild will entertain the right crowd. However, it won’t pull in any additional fans with season four.
