Star Trek – Review

stStar Trek has always taken a backseat to Star Wars in my opinion.  I’m always preferred Solo to Kirk and Ben to Spock, but J.J. Abrams’ reboot makes the new entries into the Star Wars universe look bad, and not the good type of bad.  The flick started off with phasers blazing and upped the ante as time went on, a total scifi adrenaline rush.

In this installment we get to see the James T. Kirk (Chris Pine) we all knew existed but never got to enjoy.  This Kirk is a bad ass with a something to prove, a ladies man, and the type of action hero every guy wants to grow up to be.  And not only is Kirk certified awesome (he comes with a certificate of authenticity), Spock (Zachary Quinto) rocks harder than Iron Maiden did in the eighties. Hell, the whole crew got an upgrade.  Abrams used his head when casting this one.  Anyway, this time around the crew of the USS Enterprise are doing their best to not get themselves killed when confronted by bad-guy, Nero (Eric Bana), and much ass kickery ensues.  Oh, and Karl Urban stole the show as Dr. Leonard “Bones” McCoy….I’m just saying.

Truthfully I didn’t expect this flick to be all that good.  Usually reboots don’t work, and neither do prequels.  I figured at the most I’d get the chance to geek out over some amazing effects (I did BTW).  Only after ten minutes after the opening credits I realized that this flick was way more then just fancy special effects.  Everything Lucas did wrong with his prequels, Abrams did right with this one.  It doesn’t matter if your a fan of Star Trek or not, this flick will make you a fan.  If you haven’t already picked up tickets to see this one, I suggest doing so now, because it is positively a killer film.

Oh, also, Kirk really does F**k green chicks!
