Nun of That – DVD Review

The Film:

The Order of the Black Habit is a secret religious organization that sends out a gun toting hitwoman to wipe the earth of sinners and scum alike. Numero uno on their list is Richie Corbucci (Brandon Luis Aponte) of the Rizzo family, but she goes down fast in a blaze of glory at a strip joint.

A replacement falls in their laps in the form of hot-tempered Sister Wrath (Sarah Nicklin) who was killed in a botched rape attempt and ascends to heaven. The singing bearded messiah assigns her to return to Earth to kick some gangsta booty, not before she receives some training from Mahatma Gandhi with the assistance of some ninjas. Bad guys go down, tacky CG is everywhere, and there you have an hour and a half of my life that I will never get back. I will have none of that.

Ouch. This one is going to hurt. While I’m sure everyone’s heart was in the right place, this film is a disaster and is a disgrace to the Rape/Revenge and Nunsploitation genres. Just because a film is a wink to the ”Grindhouse” style of filmmaking, it shouldn’t be given a free pass for a laughable script, horrid acting, and the lack of mammory glands and holy derrière. It’s safe to say that Abel Ferrara’s Ms. 45 was the template for this lukewarm exercise in lameness, so I encourage all fans to give that one a look.

The DVD

Audio/Video: Standard stuff here. Aside from Grindhouse and Black Dynamite, most post 2000′s films end up with an egg of their face trying to look like a 30-year old film. It all seemed off to me.
