I Love You, Man – Blu-ray Review

iloveyoumanbdThe Film

I’ve always loved comedy.  When I was a kid I watched Saturday Night Live religiously, and movies like Airplane, Jekyll and Hyde… Together Again, and Blazing Saddles were rites of passage among my friends and I.  Smart comedy that not only made its audience laugh, it made them think as well.  Comedy that took the simplicities of everyday life and showed the world how funny it actually is.  This was the comedy that got me excited then, and it’s the comedy that’s tickling my funny-bone now.

I Love You, Man is a perfect example of comedy done right.  Comedy that’s not only well written, but well acted as well.  Just a month ago I was bitching because I didn’t think Paul Rudd got the credit he deserves, and now I’m even more positive that the man not only deserves high praise, but his skills need to be recognized for how awesome they are.  In I Love You, Man Rudd plays Peter Klaven, a real estate agent about to get married, only he doesn’t have any real guy friends.  So when it comes to picking a best man for his wedding or groomsmen even, he doesn’t have a pool of friends to choose from.  So he set out to find not only a best man, but a friend that he can hang out with as well.

The actors in this flick rocked the screen so hard I was worried that it might crash to the ground making it impossible for me to finish watching the awesome display of funny unfolding before my eyes.  As I said before Paul Rudd kicked major ass as the man with no testosterone, and Jason Segel was brilliant as Sydney Fife, the friend that’s not afraid to let his freak flag fly.  Jon Favreau was also extremely brilliant as Barry.  Actually, there’s not a weak cast member in the flick period.  And the look and feel of the flick is top notch as well, so huge props to John Hamburg for rocking the directors chair.

I’m not going to analyze the flick to death, but I am going to say that I had a great time at the movies.  I laughed, I had some popcorn, and I rocked out to Rush (one of the greatest bands in the world).  So do yourself a favor, if you haven’t seen I Love You, Man yet then please do so, because it was definitely a killer film.

The Blu-Ray

Audio/Video – The audio on this disc is solid, the scenes with RUSH sounded great.  Of course this is a comedy so the soundtrack isn’t over done.  The video transfer is crisp and clear with vibrant colors.

Special Features

Commentary Track – I don’t usually dig commentary tracks, but this flick’s track is awesome!  Director Hamburg and stars Paul Rudd and Jason Segal are funny people and they put together a solid track.

The Making of I Love You, Man - The comedy team behind this flick made a great little behind the scenes featurette.  Really funny BTS footage combined with interviews made for an enjoyable extra feature.

Extras – This is an awesome feature where the actors are shown improvising lines.  Everything about this feature is funny and worth watching.

Extended Scenes - These are cool but not my favorites.  The extended scenes don’t really fit in with the flow of the film, but are still worth a look.

Deleted Scenes - Like in most deleted scenes features most of these deserved to be deleted.

The disc also contains a killer Gag Reel and the flick’s Red Band Trailer as well.

  1. Jekyll and Hyde… Together Again is one of my favorite comedies ever. I can quote that film forever.
