Horrible Bosses – Review (Matt’s Take)
Let’s face it, we’ve all had/have horrible bosses. A boss that makes your working environment a living hell. Whether they give a promotion you deserve to someone else, or your company gets inherited by the owner’s drug-addicted son, or maybe you’re just getting sexually harassed by your hot boss.
Well, have you ever thought about getting rid of that person? Hopefully not, but that’s how Jason Batemen, Jason Sudeikis, and Charlie Day felt about their bosses in Seth Gordon’s (King of Kong) Horrible Bosses.
Horrible Bosses is pretty straight-forward: Nick Hendricks (Jason Bateman), Dale Arbus (Charlie Day), and Kurt Buckman (Jason Sudeikis) are all plagued by their bosses Dr. Julia Harris (Jennifer Aniston), Dave Harken (Kevin Spacey), and Bobby Pellitt (Collin Farrell) at their jobs. They then decide to each get rid of their horrible bosses. They meet up with a “murder consultant”  Dean “Motherf*cker” Jones (Jamie Foxx) to find a way to kill them. However, things go horribly wrong from there.
Probably the greatest aspect of Horrible Bosses was the great casting. Kevin Spacey as Jason Batemen’s sadistic boss is somewhat reminiscent of his performance as Lex Luthor in Bryan Singer’s Superman Returns. But who wouldn’t of thought Luthor would make a horrible boss? Collin Farrell does an excellent job as Bobby Pellitt, so much so that you may not even recognize Farrell in the role. Jennifer Aniston did a great job as Charlie Day’s nymphomaniac boss, but many would likely be wondering why this would be a problem, I mean who would have an issue with that! Well, at least the male viewers wouldn’t. Charlie Day also gives a great performance in the movie, and provides most of the laughs throughout the film.
Horrible Bosses does rely mostly on sexual humor for laughs, but also mixes black comedy within the film. And while we’ve seen this type of film in the past, it’s still very entertaining to say the least.
