Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince – Review
I’m a huge fan of the Harry Potter books but not of the movies. I don’t hate the movies, but I don’t feel like they are as good as the books. Although, I feel like I have to give  props to all the filmmakers that have worked on these films because every flick is better than the one before it, which is a rare thing when it comes to sequels, and while I don’t think they’ll ever make a Potter picture that compares to the books, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince was pretty darn awesome.
This time around Harry and company are experiencing some pretty trying days at Hogwarts. Death eaters are causing trouble in both the wizarding world and muggle world. Wizards and Muggles alike are disappearing and people are living in fear, but that doesn’t stop raging hormones from taking over at Hogwarts. Every boy and girl that roam the halls of the famous school that once housed “he who must not be named” are making out until their tongues fall off. Love potions are passed around, jealousy is rampart, and Emma Watson is really sexy.
So in between hormonal breakdowns Harry, Ron, and Hermione (yum) do their best to fight off the death eaters. Harry sorts through memories with Dumbledore, looking for clues that might help them in their quest to crush the HDEIC (head death eater in charge). Ron drinks a shot of fake courage and Hermione cries (and looks good doing it).
The mood was dark but the flick was solid. I really enjoyed this entry in the Potter franchise, so much so that I’m going to see it again. The only complaint I have is that the theatre was extremely packed. The flick looked great, it had a soft moody look to it and even though the action wasn’t as prevalent it looked better than it did in any of the previous entries. If your a Potter fan this flick is gonna knock your socks off, but if your new to the franchise I’d suggest Netflixing a few of the other Potter flicks because if you don’t you’ll be lost. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince was positively a killer film.
Rating:

I have to admite I have never read any of the “Potter” books, but I have enjoyed every film in the series. While the first two were early Spielbergian in their approach, the franchise took a darker tone with each subsequent film.
I am waiting to see it on July 29, when it opens in IMAX 3-D.
