Hannah Montana: The Movie – Blu-ray Review

hannahmbdThe Flick

As a parent I sometimes have to see films that I really don’t want to see.  Hannah Montana: The Movie is one of those films, but because I want to be a good parent and I also want to instill a love of cinema in my children, I sat through it, not once, but twice.  I opened the Blu-ray and popped the microwave popcorn, then parked my butt on the couch with my little girl.  When the Disney logo went up and the Hannah Montana: The Movie moniker appeared on the screen my little girl’s face lit up like a beautiful candle.  And after a few minutes this flick didn’t feel like torture anymore.

As far as the plot goes, Hannah Montana: The Movie was pretty standard.  Actually, it’s a movie you’ve seen countless times before with different actors inserted into various parts.  It’s equal parts The Princess Diaries and Sweet Home Alabama. Don’t get me wrong when it comes to children’s movies most of the time the formulas are pretty predictable, and even though these formulas are tried and true it would be nice to see some new stories pop up every now and then.  With that said, Hannah Montana: The Movie wasn’t all that terrible.

First of all Miley Cyrus is a an extremely talented young lady.  There are plenty of other Disney pop sensations with a lot less talent that run around shaving their heads and jumping in and out of cars with Paris Hilton, so as far as Miley is concerned I’m cool with my daughter’s slight obsession (at least for now).  Also, it’s almost impossible to recognize Billy Ray Cyrus without his trademark mullet, and like his daughter, he’s not all that bad either.  Overall I’d say that the cast was pretty solid.

There are far more horrible movies out there for kids and Miley Cyrus isn’t the worst role model for young girls either.  While I wouldn’t say this was a killer film, I’m sure my daughter would.

The Blu-ray

Audio/Video

The audio was clear and the sounded as good as teeny-bop can sound on a home theatre system.  The video was crisp and clear.  The transfer held the colors gave the flick a clean look in 1080p.

Special Features

Audio Commentary – Director Peter Chelsom’s track is essentially for the fans.  If your into this series then it might keep your interest, I however, was completely bored.

Find Your Way Back Home – Miley Cyrus heads back to her hometown of Franklin, Tennessee and with the help of Emily Osment acts as a tour guide.  My little girl really enjoyed this feature so I’ll say that it was worth watching.

The Hoedown Throwdown Home Experience – Focuses on giving fans of the flick a look at how the Hoedown Dance was done.

I Should Have Gone To Film School – With Jason Earles – This was by far my favorite feature on the disc.  It follows actor Jason Earles around the set and gives kids a look at how a film is made.

Deleted Scenes – These deleted scenes were pretty funny and kept my little girl’s attention big time.

Outtakes – Pretty standard outtakes reel.

Videos - The Climb, You’ll Always Find Your Way Back Home, and Let’s Get Crazy by Miley Cyrus, Back to Tennessee by Billy Ray Cyrus, Bless the Broken Road by Rascal Flatts, and Crazier by Taylor Swift.

As with most of the new Disney releases disc 2 is the DVD version of the flick and disc 3 is the digital version of the flick.
