Greg Giraldo: Midlife Vices – DVD Review

gregdvdThe Film:

Comedy is one of the hardest careers to pursue. Only a select number of people can manage to walk that thin line of being fresh and funny while managing not to offend anyone in this ever so sensitive and culturally aware society. This by far isn’t Greg Giraldo’s first time doing a stand up special, and he is definitely a funny guy as we have seen from the Comedy Central Roasts. This special takes place in New York where he touches on everything from anorexic Hollywood stars, the new generation of overweight kids, the historic presidential election, and who else but former president George Bush.

Comedy is something that varies from day to day and person to person. That is why I have such a high respect for comedians who sustain a high career and master their craft. Not only in that aspect, but standup comedy truly displays personality. Giraldo actually hits quite well in this special. There were a few dull spots, but that is the great thing about live comedy. Even in a dull spot, it doesn’t take much to recover. He displays a true stage presence that is not seen much in standup comedy anymore. Of course everything was not funny which is expected, but there were enough good topics that were touched on to keep the attention throughout.

Bonus Features:

The first is a Comedy Central interview with Greg Giraldo. The second is a Comedy segment called “Adult Content” which is about different sex topics.

Conclusion:

It is not the best standup ever seen, Giraldo was definitely entertaining and fresh with the topics that he joked about. It would definitely be entertaining to most.
