Get Him to the Greek – Review
I am a huge fan of Forgetting Sarah Marshall, so I wasn’t extremely excited about a spin off featuring the film’s secondary characters. I was also a little upset that the lead character in Get Him to the Greek is involved with my ex-girlfriend Katy Perry. I felt betrayed when she decided to leave me for him. Even though she said that she couldn’t commit to a married man I was still irritated by her decision. Despite these negative feelings I left the theater with a smile on my face.
The story revolves around broken rock star Aldous Snow (Russell Brand), who after years of clean living with his girl friend falls off the wagon. His career in shambles he is approached by Aaron Green (Jonah Hill) a lowly record company executive that wants to bring him back to the states to do an anniversary concert. This seems like an easy task at first, but as Aaron quickly learns, it’s easy to get caught up in the rock star lifestyle.
Russell Brand proved himself with this picture. His performance is perfect and his timing is spot on. He personified the burnout rockstar with a certain charm that makes it impossible not to like him. He was so good in fact that I found myself laughing louder than I had in a long time. Rose Byrne was also pretty impressive as Aldous’s ex-wife Jackie Q. She played the character with as much charisma and charm as Brand did with Snow. Speaking of charisma the character that seemed to be lacking was Jonah Hill’s Aaron Green. He wasn’t terrible, just not extremely exciting either. Actually he was rather forgettable. One actor that wasn’t forgettable is Sean “P. Diddy” Combs as record mogul Sergio Roma. He steals every scene his in and kicked so much ass I was laughing at his lines five minutes after he’d finished delivering them. There were also a host of other fun cameo appearances from superstars like Lars Ulrich, Pink, and Kurt Loder. Basically there was no shortage of talent in this flick.
If your in the mood for a raunchy comedy that comes complete with tons of vulgarity, nudity, sex, drugs and rock n’ roll, then this is flick for you. Get Him to the Greek was a solid follow up to an unforgettable comedy, but it definitely rides its own wave and is positively a killer film.
