Faces in the Crowd – DVD Review

The Film

Tell me if this story sounds familiar. A serial killer is on the loose, and the only witness to ever survive one of his attacks, can’t indentify who he is. Sounds familiar, right? But how many of those witnesses can’t identify their attackers due to “face blindness?” It’s called “Prosopagnosia” and it is a mental condition in which a person’s ability to recognize faces is impaired, causes them to see a different face every time they lose sight of someone, including their own reflection. This is the case for Anna Merchant, a young woman who must come to terms with her new circumstance while being hunted by her elusive predator.

The film stars Milla Jovovich (The Fifth Element, Resident Evil) as Anna, & Julian McMahon (Nip/Tuck, Fantastic Four) as Detective Kerrest. Both performances are done well enough for the characters they are portraying. The film is written and directed by newcomer Julien Magnat. The film succeeds in its use of “doppelgangers,” that is multiple actors who portray the same characters as to display the effects of Anna’s condition. It also does a pretty nifty job in throwing off the viewer’s suspicion of the killer’s identity.
