Driven to Kill – DVD Review
Â
When I was a kid I loved Steven Seagal movies, but unfortunately over the last few years Mr. Seagal’s movies have lost their charm. So when I got the screener for Driven to Kill I wasn’t stoked about seeing it. Who wants to see fat Steven Seagal? Is that even an argument? “Dude, what Steven Seagal do you like better, skinny kick ass Steven or chunky I’m gonna start using a gun in order to conserve energy steven?” I’m pretty sure that question doesn’t come up often, even at the Steven Seagal convention (if there isn’t a Steven Seagal convention, there should be). Â
Anyway, the story goes something like this, Ruslan Drachev (Steven Seagal), a retired Russian mobster is kicking back and collecting a check for all the awesome books he writes about his former life. He’s also busy doing bad-ass tough guy stuff for his girl friend in exchange for a little girl-on-girl action. Life is good, that is until Russian Steven Seagal gets a call from his daughter who wants him to come back to his old stomping ground and walk her down the isle. Being the awesome dad he is, Russian Steven Seagal rushes to his daughter’s side and gives her his mother’s ring as a gift to use in place of the ring her fiance has already given her (really this is just a plot device used because the script wasn’t very good). Oh, I forgot to mention that the fiance is also the son of a Russian mobster. BAM! Some bad guys kill Russian Steven Seagal’s ex-wife and put his daughter in the ICU, and you know what that means! Russian Steven Seagal goes on a rampage and starts killing everyone that might have been involved with the crimes against his family. Even though this flick isn’t really good, it’s still somehow AWESOME! I know, those of you reading this think I’m crazy, but hear me out. Steven Seagal kicks ass. Everyone knows this, it’s a fact of life, and even with a little bit of weight on him and a piss poor excuse for a script the movie was fun. While I know only hardcore Seagal fans are going to buy this one, I urge everyone to at least rent it. It’s one of those flicks that is so-bad-it’s-good.  It’s not quite a killer film, but mixed with a few beers and a super hero like Steven Seagal rocking the screen Driven to Kill sure was a fun movie.
