Destini Beard: A Time Forgotten – CD Review

In 1997 the world was introduced to a group that would go on to become one of the greatest ambiant/instrumental groups of all time, Midnight Syndicate. Since then, the group, consisting of Edward Douglas and Gavin Goszka, have release 10 albums and 2 soundtracks. In 2010 the band joined forces with a very talented young singer named Destini Beard. For her debut EP, Destini took songs previously released by Midnight Syndacate and added her vocals. The EP, entitled The Dark Masquerade was a haunting tale of love, mysteries and nightmares. 2 years late Midnight Syndacate and Destini have come together once more, this time on Beard’s debut full-length album, A Time Forgotten.

A Time Forgotten took the same idea as The Dark Masquerade, of using already established MS songs, but adding Destini’s haunting vocals. Being a fan of the band for over a decade, I’ve often wondered how their music would sound with lyrics attached, and Destini made that dream into a reality. From the first track, The Lost Overture (which uses the MS song Fallen Grandeur for it’s music), all the way through the last track, My Last Goodbye (which was written by Destini and produced and mixed by MS), the album is a collection of dreams lost in a nightmare, but in the best way possible. In a sea of music that is nothing but generic sounds, Destini Beard is a breath of fresh air.

Between the amazing music from MS and the haunting and hypnotic vocals of Destini, this album is one not to be missed. It’s only August, but this is certainly going to be one that remains in constant rotation as the Fall and Halloween seasons arrive. You can purchase the album either through Midnight Syndicate’s website or from Destini Beard’s home site.
