Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam – Blu-ray Review
I usually look forward to watching the kids shows we have the pleasure of reviewing. Mainly because I get to enjoy some quality time with my kids, so I popped Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam into the player ready to enjoy the company of my children and hopefully not be completely repulsed by the flick. It didn’t take me long to figure out that I wasn’t really digging the vibe Camp Rock 2 was throwing down.
The plot is simple. Most of the kids from the first flick have returned to the summer camp that’s all about the music, and while they are there they foster relationships, learn about responsibility, sing, dance. All the required elements for a cheesy musical are in place, and so are the essential elements for a summer camp movie. That’s right, a rival camp (across the lake of course) challenges the future of Camp Rock and forces its campers to take it up a notch, musically.
The young actors are pretty solid. Even the Jonas brothers did a decent job of playing youthful rockstars (go figure). Demi Lovato is pale, wears long sleeves in the summer and sings pretty well, and Alyson Stoner can move like one of Madonna’s backup dancers.
The music is fine for young children and teenagers, and the dance numbers are pretty impressive as well. While I’m not the intended audience for this flick, I’m pretty sure that it hits the mark for those that are. My children were glued to the screen and have since watched it at least three more times. It wasn’t a killer film, but it was a killer kid’s film.
The Blu-ray:
Audio/Video
The audio was crisp and clear and sounded like a well produced studio album. That’s probably because it was a well produced studio album. The video was pretty solid for a flick that was made for television. The blu-ray transfer is pretty solid as well, boasting a clear picture with rich colors.
Special Features
Getting to Know Camp Star’s newest Stars: Alyson Stoner interviews the new cast members from the shows rival camp. A solid feature for fans of the flick.
Rock-Along: Fans can rock along with the songs while watching the flick because the words to the songs appear on the screen timed with the rhythm of the songs.
