Bad Biology – DVD Review

The Film:

The one thing I always worry about as a fan of any filmmaker is that with age things change. They grow older and have a family and start to regret their younger days when the movies they made were raw and offensive. There is also the concern that over time their skills start to weaken and they just don’t have it in them to bring back the glory of yesteryear.

Frank Henenlotter hasn’t directed a film since 1992′s Basket Case 3: The Progeny. He joined forces with Rapper R.A. ‘The Rugged Man’ Thorburn for Bad Biology, which is not only a return to form, but perhaps the best film of his career.

Jennifer (Charlee Danielson) is a photographer who was born with seven (rhymes with Delores), and spends her waking hours trying to quench her beastly vagina by hooking up with as many men as possible. Her sexual encounters are beyond violent and her multiple orgasms end in the death of her mates. She also has an accelerated reproductive system that causes her to pop out a mutant baby two hours later. Jennifer is proud of her conquests and takes pictures of her lovers to use later for masturbation sessions.

Then there is Batz (Anthony Sneed), who has a monster schlong that would make Ron Jeremy envious. He grew up with a pee wee sized “Johnson” and was tired of it being so small.  It grew to epic preportions after taking some some drugs that make Viagra look like Flintstones vitamins. He is not the master of his domain as his drug addicted pecker requires constant stimulation. At one point it becomes a detachable penis, does some home invasion raping, and gives new meaning to the phrase “breaking and entering”.

These are two sexually charged individuals whose destiny is to meet and have a sublime lay. As Jennifer puts it, she wants The Holy Spirit to screw her and have his holy seed put inside her so she can have “God’s Holy Child”.

Frank Henenlotter is back! Bad Biology feels like all of his films combined into one euphoric piece of celluloid. Take the grotesqueries of Basket Case and the debauchery of Frankenhooker, and what you have is a horror classic that would surely be slapped with an NC-17 rating if released in theaters.

If you thought the orgasm scene in When Harry Met Sally was hilarious, wait until you see a woman who experiences one that goes for 45 minutes. Guys know that the ladies talk about penis size, and there is a conversation between two girls about John Holmes’ 14-incher that is jocular and dead on.

The DVD:

Audio/Video: The film is presented in 1.78:1 and the picture quality is pristine. The movie looked ace.

Audio Commentary with legendary Writer/Director Frank Henenlotter & Producer R.A. The Rugged Man Thorburn: A fantastic audio commenary that talks about the production problems trying to get simple permits, the Make-up/Visual work from Henenlotter cronies Al Magliochetti and Gabe Bartalos, and how Frank shot a bootleg porn for the film.

Fuck Face – The Man Behind the Lens: Want to see Frank Henenlotter have his nipple pinched from actress Charlee Danielson? A short behind-the-scenes featurette that is a hoot and a half to watch.
