Starship Troopers is one of the most unrealistic movies ever made when it comes to how infantry operates. It is also a VERY unfaithful adaptation of the classic novel by Robert Heinlein. But taken as it is, it is also one of the best satire films when it comes to the dangers of nationalistic pride. Who were the real villains, the humans or the bugs? Who knows, all I know is that watching Johnny Rico blow up that tanker makes me giddy every time I see it.
Never did see Part 2, lets move on to:
RICO IS BACK CITIZENS!!!!!
Starship Troopers 3 feels more like it should have been part 2. Its a good progression of the storyline. Granted, the only returning character is Johnny Rico, but he is the soul of the series. We view this insane fascist world through his eyes, and he always makes sure to keep a straight face throughout the insanity. The film picks up 8 years after the first, Rico is a Colonel, and the federation is still trying to bullshit the populace into fighting the never ending bug war. The people are starting to rebel against the war, and are given the noose for their troubles. But a rescue mission involving an old friend of Rico, and the immensely popular Sky Marshal sets out a series of events that change the entire face of the federation.
Marauder gives back what fans like me loved about part 1: the great satire, graphic violence, and over the top propaganda as part of the “federal network”. The special effects are no where near as good as part 1, but given that this is a low budget direct to video sequel, I can forgive. And yes the powered armor from the classic novel is there, albeit for a very short time, but man was I happy to finally see it. Lastly, fans of the novel will notice a very secret nod, frying bacon. If you know the novel like me, you will see it, and thats why Marauder is definitely a KILLER FILM
NOW GET OUT THERE AND KILL EM ALL!!!!!!!!!
