Review Summary
Now that I’ve seen season two, all I can say is that it bitch-slapped season one, left me drunk with excitement for what might happen in season three, and solidified the fact that Michael C. Hall is a bad-ass-mofo!
The Review
The Series
When I first sat down to watch the first season of “Dexter” I had no idea that it was going to kick as much ass as it did, but it rocked and left me eagerly anticipating season two. Now that I’ve seen season two, all I can say is that it bitch-slapped season one, left me drunk with excitement for what might happen in season three, and solidified the fact that Michael C. Hall is a bad-ass-mofo!
Season two picks up right where season one left off, with Dexter’s sister Debra (Jennifer Carpenter) trying to pick up the pieces after her love affair with the Ice Truck Killer (Christian Camargo), Lt. Laguerta (Lauren Vélez) dealing with her demotion, and Dexter (Michael C. Hall) itching to get back to what he does best, kill people. Right from the starting gate a couple of treasure hunters stumble upon Dexter’s underwater graveyard of bodies and all of a sudden his crimes are front page news and the Bay Harbor Butcher is born. Being under close scrutiny Dexter looses his composure and makes a few unwise decisions, one of which is hooking up with the extremely sexy Lila (Jaime Murray). Lila clings to him like a true stalker with years of practice, putting Dexter in uncomfortable situations and then working her way into the lives of his friends and family. Also, Sergeant Doakes (Erik King) is so far up Dexter’s ass the guy smells like a pile of walking shit, and causes a little departmental tension. Soon Dexter’s murders attract the attention of the FBI, who send in a super cop to track down the Bay Harbor Butcher, and a partridge in a pear tree.
This season was amazing with wonderful performances from all of the cast members. The look of the show was phenomenal, and the writing is top notch. “Dexter” is a series that matures with every episode, and if the creative team keep up the good work, and I’m sure they will, then “Dexter” very well might live on to become the worlds most lovable serial killer. This is absolutely a killer series!
The DVD
Video: The video was crisp and clear.
Audio: The audio was loud and clear (the series has an awesome score and soundtrack).
Special Features
The special features are slim on this disc. There is an full episode of Showtime’s “Brotherhood” and previews of few other Showtime titles as well. Also we are treated to an interview tith Michael c. Hall, and a few pod casts but these features are only accessible through a DVD-ROM link. Not the best package, but the series kicks so much ass that I’ll forgive the weak extras.
