Bloody Fun

The Thirst is your typical boy and girl get off drugs, girl gets cancer and doesn’t tell boy, girl becomes vampire to ’save’ her life, boy eventually follows suit and together they deal with the ethical and moral consequences of their new reality, story. By the way it’s incredibly fun and bloody.

Darius, played by Jeremy Sisto, leads his band of vampires from town to town as they feast on the employees and patrons at various clubs. In this reality blood flows fast and furious, which takes the movie out of the disturbing and gross realm and into the fun and playful world. Most scenes involve topless women usually writhing and covered in blood yet somehow it didn’t seem too flagrant.

Strong acting all around except for the earlier text heavy scenes, which even a great actor, couldn’t save. Maxx, played by Matt Keeslar, reminded me of an even more awkward Clark Kent (not in a good way) but once he transformed into a vampire he was a strong leading man.

These vampires don’t seduce and nibble like the ones we see in more traditional fare, here they attack like a starving animal, tearing off clumps of flesh and appendages so that they can gulp down the blood that comes gushing out.

The movie makes some obvious comparisons between drug addictions and blood addictions. It is the two newest inductees into the family that have already battled drugs that maintain their moral compass and have to fight to save the innocent victims but do they have the strength?
