9 Songs is both arousing and uncomfortable while offering a fresh way to look at love within the confines of a short term relationship. The film follows Matt ( Kieran O’Brien) a British glaciologist and his American girlfriend Lisa (Margo Stilley) through their short lived relationship.

Between having lots of sex (almost every scene) the lovers attend rock concerts by acts like The Dandy Warhols, The Von Bondies, and various others. Director Michael Winterbottom included a barrage of different sex acts for our viewing pleasure, we have a wonderful blow-job scene, an ejaculation shot (literally), penetration, and a little good old fashioned pussy eating.

Another thing that stands out is that condoms are always present. Interspersed between the sex and music are scenes from the South Pole (where Matt works). The main theme I took from this flick was that sex and music are strong purveyors of memory. You might forget your math teacher, but usually not a great piece of ass or a killer song. I thought this flick was arousing and contained some memorable music and that is all I needed.
