Uwe Boll’s over Hollywood

DSC03318Uwe Boll was recently in town to attend the American Film Market to secure distribution for the avalanche of films that he has in the can. He made a pit stop at Spudic’s Movie Empire for an in-store signing and brought along a few of his cronies: Michael Pare (Far Cry), Clint Howard (House of the Dead), and Zack Ward (Postal).

I arrive early to witness Uwe walking in with a video tape in hand as he shows a group of fans promo trailers for three promising films. Of the lot, Darfur looks powerful as it explores the Genocide that is taking place in Sudan. Stoic is about a game of poker that causes three men incarcerated for nonviolent offenses to brutalize their cellmate before taking drastic measures in order to cover up their crime. And lastly, Final Storm has Luke Perry in a story about the biblical end of the world, sort of reminded me of The Seventh Sign with Demi Moore.

Being the consummate businessman that Uwe is, he brought FREE posters for Seed, Postal, and Max Schmeling to give away. The Schmeling biopic should come as no suprise to the online nerds who had their clocks rung by Dr. Boll. He’s not just a huge fan of the sweet science, the guy has a background as a boxer as well.

The signing begins as all the guests meet and greet fans. Numerous DVD sleeves are busted out for Uwe to sign, but he loudly wonders where is the cover for House of the Dead: The Funny Version. Not more than five minutes later a woman comes to the rescue as Uwe smiles with glee.

The person that my wife and I were stoked to to get talk time with was Clint Howard. She got her picture with him and had her Rock ’n’ Roll High School DVD autographed. I got to geek out and tell him how much I love Evilspeak and Ticks, and then we both mused why the 1993 nature run amok flick has never been put on DVD.

Before I left, Uwe was kind enough to invite me to the AFM screening of Rampage the next day. A review is in my hip pocket, but let’s say I had a blast seeing it with Uwe, Michael Pare, and even the Managing Editor of Fangoria – Tony Timpone.

  1. I’m actually watching EDDIE AND THE CRUISERS II: EDDIE LIVES right now. Michael Pare had so much potential, and I’m sad that he never blew up bigger. It’s good to see Uwe using someone like him in his movies. Zack Ward has always been the man, as far back as the Scut Farkus incident. Uwe gets too much hate, in my opinion. His movies my not always be great, but they are hella fun. He seems to be getting a good footing since POSTAL. I’ve heard good things about most of the movies he’s worked on since then. More power to him!

  2. He was good in The Philadelphia Experiment and his brief role in Village of the Damned.

  3. Wow what a cool meetup! His is a savvy businessman indeed.

Pardon the sorta plug but … Dr. Boll will be screening Darfur in Vancouver, Canada on Dec. 10th presented by Amnesty International. I have some passes if any of your reader are is interested and happen to be around Vancouver.

Keep an eye on MovieSet.com for lots of exclusive Uwe stuff including interviews, previews, b-roll etc. and feel free to embed and share.

    Enjoy!
