New Release Tuesday
Welcome to another New Release Tuesday for November 18th! Once a month, it seems, there is just one week that is jammed packed with great titles. This is that week.
Tropic Thunder
I want to see the extended cut that you get with either the two-disc special edition or Blu Ray as this was one funny film. It’s rude and epic and worth the hype.
Wall-E
**PICK OF THE WEEK** Pixar’s best may just be the best animated film in a decade. Gorgeously shot and animated, but features a truly remarkable story. If a film can make a cockroach a great character, they must’ve done something right. If you have the option, go Blu Ray with this-trust me.
Zombie Diaries
Another title from Dimension’s Extreme Label, although I haven’t heard of this flick, I’m curious. Apparently, this documents via news style footage and handheld video a zombie uprising. Doesn’t sound inventive but I hope it is good regardless.
300
This is an awesome looking gift set with a book photos and other goodies. Don’t know why they’re re-releasing it again, but it looks to be a must own-if you’re a fan of the film. I was lukewarm on it.
Up the Yangtze
I’ve seen a lot of documentaries this year and I believe this is one of the better ones. It’s as beautiful as it is haunting and I hope you read my interview with the director, Yung Chang, from yesterday. If not, read it here.
Gonzo: Life and Work of Dr. Hunter S. Thompson
I think Alex Gibney is three-for-three in his documentaries (Enron and Taxi to the Dark Side).  Narrated by Johnny Depp, the film gives us some insights into him as well as putting him into historical context. Great doc!
Cannibal! The Musical 13h Anniversary Edition
Trey Parker and Matt Stone’s first film, is a low budgeted musical just as wacky as South Park. Â Â Â I must’ve seen this film a million times already thanks to my ex-girlfriend who watched it endlessly. I hope Troma adds some good materials as the only good extras on the other disc were the drunken commentary.
Encounters at the End of the World
I like Werner Herzog but I was lukewarm on this documentary. Features some great footage though.
David Lynch Lime Green Set
This badass box set features his short films, Dumbland, Eraserhead, and a new DVD of Elephant Man, with new extras plus other goodies. A must own.
