Maurice Devereaux’s Halloween Watch List

After posting my own Halloween Watch list, I was lucky enough to get Maurice Devereaux, the director of one of my Halloween Pick, ($la$her$) to spare some time out of his busy schedule to do his his Halloween watch list for Killerfilm!

Born out of my hometown Montreal, Maurice has made a name for himself in the Canadian Horror community with his films Lady of the Lake and his award-winning festival hit, End of the Line.
Read Maurice’s eclectic list of Halloween films and be sure to show him some love in the comment section below!

1- CARNIVAL OF SOULS (the original)

If you can get into its vintage mood and imagine being a kid again and watching this late at night…SPOOKY!!!

2- THE WICKER MAN (the original)

The pagan cult in the film is sort of like Halloween and it’s funny, intriguing, sexy and has one of the best endings ever.

3- THE EXORCIST 3

This film does not get the love it should, well acted, creepy and one of the best ALL TIME jump scares ever.

4- MARTIN

This is a great film, sad, thrilling, realistic and just fuck you if you can’t get past its low budget and rough edges and see that it’s brilliant.

5- WITCHFINDER GENERAL

A realistic look of a very dark period of history, with a great performance by Vincent Price

  1. Withcfinder General and The Wicker Man are two of my all time favorite films, and are on my list for yearly Halloween viewing.

  2. Awesome list! Maqrtin is one of my favorite romero films ever, and completely agree with you on the brilliance of excorcist —

  3. When I met George, my first thing I said to him as we shook hands, was “Here’s to them never remaking ‘Martin’.” He chuckled and said “yeah, hopefully.” It’s a superb film.
