It was so damn hard for me to nail down five for 2011. Almost all the films listed above I want to see badly.
I would like to give a shout out to Joe Lynch’s upcoming flick THE KNIGHTS OF BADASSDOM; sounds amazing!

It was way to hard too, nailing down 5, because there’s a slew of must-sees next year. Mother’s Day and 11-11-11 are high on my horror list.
Even one’s that seems curious on paper could be great, who knows? 2011 is looking like a great year for all sorts of genre titles. I’m gonna be broke….

Yeah, soo many good movies coming out next year.
So everyone wants to see Thor? Saw the trailer in 3D and it looks superb.
Jon Reply:

Remember: Thor and Captain America are post-converted so it might have mixed 3D results. I thought it looked okay in 3D, trailer-wise, anyway.

Same goes for GL

I don’t mind the post-conversion, but I grew up on the old 3D methods.
I’m with Jason on his 5, plus CHROMESKULL, COWBOYS AND ALIENS and RED STATE. I have no interest in THOR or GREEN LANTERN.

I want to see THOR, GREEN LANTERN, and CAPTAIN AMERICA…but I didn’t want to go with the obvious either.
Jon Reply:

That’s why I left off Insidious because I knew you’d place it there, but that looks superb. I really don’t have too much interest in Super 8, but maybe when I see it I’ll enjoy it. I could go for an alien version of Blair Witch.
Thor has this Iron Man vibe from 2008. No real expectations but it will blow people away, I thinking.
Brad is just a hater on superheroes.
Brad Reiter Reply:

Yes, I am. Actually not totally a hater. I’m more of a fan of the lesser superheroes like THE CROW and HELLBOY. IRON MAN was fantastic, but the second not so much. Most people are tired of remakes, I’m growing tired of comic book movies.

Brad, you a fan of SPAWN? lol
Matt Keith Reply:
December 30th, 2010 at 10:45 am
SPAWN was awesome. It’s definitely in need of a reboot though.
Jon Reply:
December 30th, 2010 at 11:22 am
Well, sorry Brad. 2011 is the year of the superhero, but if these are less usccessful than expected, you might not see too many past 2014. It’s like when the fantasy genre exploded after LotR, but faded. All genres have their cycles. I enjoy them.
Crow rock (where’s the Blu?); Hellboy is good; V for Vendetta was stellar; Sin City really good; RED and Kick-Ass great, so there’s plenty for you to see not being in the typical realm of superheroes.

Even if the films next year aren’t successful (which I really doubt), THE DARK KNIGHT RISES, THE MAN OF STEEL, and THE AVENGERS will be.
I realize it was early on in the technology, but SPAWN had some of the worst CGI…just ugly stuff.
It’s been a long time since I’ve watched it, time to give it another spin.

Spawn was decent. Not as violent as the comic, but I don’t think the Cg was “that” bad. But I haven’t seen it in years, too.
Like 2008, this year will be loaded with comicbook films.
After seeing the trailers, I’m curious about THOR and Sucker Punch.
The supernatural thriller with Anthony Hopkins looks interesting.
But really looking forward to Cowboys and Aliens, along with Battle of Los Angeles. Plan to head for the cinema for those two.
As for DTV, bring on Chrome Skull.
Hoping for some pleasant suprises, like Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, Celda 211 and Frozen.
Love possession/exorcism flicks; will be seeing THE RITE.
Jon Reply:

I think that looks good too, outside of the fact from the trailer, he looks like he gets possessed.
Jason Bené Reply:
December 30th, 2010 at 4:00 pm
Do you want the ending like most trailers these days? lol
I’m surprised none of my horror friends are as exicted for Bereavement as am I. Malevolence was great.
Brad Reiter Reply:
December 30th, 2010 at 8:40 pm
I thought that was the sequel. I loved the first movie, and am looking forward to this one.
Jon Reply:
December 30th, 2010 at 9:37 pm
Malevolence was the first film, but a sequel now to Bereavement which is the second film, but a prequel. Ouch. But it looks great. Neat poster, too.
I noticed than none of you Fanboys had “The Green Hornet.” What’s up with that?
Jon Reply:
December 30th, 2010 at 3:04 pm
For me, I think there’s near 25 better, far more interesting movies in 2011 than The Green Hornet. At first, I thought it looked horrible, but I’ve warmed up to it recently. The comedy looks off-putting.
horrorchic Reply:
December 30th, 2010 at 3:22 pm
The Green Hornet looks dreadful, a sock puppet would be a better choice than Seth Rogan.
Matt Keith Reply:
December 30th, 2010 at 3:25 pm
I think the GREEN HORNET will surprise people on how good it is, but I’m still skeptical.
horrorchic Reply:
December 30th, 2010 at 3:31 pm
The actor playing Kato and Christopher Waltz will probably outshine Rogan as the sidekick and villian.
Still wonder who else was on the short list to ply the title role?
Was Rogan actually the 1st choice?
Matt Keith Reply:
December 30th, 2010 at 5:32 pm
Rogan is mostly why I’m still skeptical of the movie, but the trailers have gotten me interested.
Brad Reiter Reply:
December 30th, 2010 at 8:42 pm
Since he wrote it, yes Rogan was the first choice.
I’m shocked that none of us put Part II of THE DEATHLY HALLOWS.
Jon Reply:
December 30th, 2010 at 4:23 pm
I’m not >:) No interest.
Matt Keith Reply:
December 30th, 2010 at 5:31 pm
I was actually deciding if I should put that on my top 5, but decided to go with CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER instead.
Marcey Papandrea Reply:
December 30th, 2010 at 5:52 pm
Well Deathly Hallows Part 2 would be top pick from me …
5 would be impossible. I would have a hard time with 20 lol!! I’ll throw some out that really haven’t been mentioned yet…
*Source Code
*Your Highness
*The Tree Of Life
*Hugo Cabret
*Knights Of Badassdom
Count me in for THOR, GREEN LANTERN, CAP. AMERICA, SUPER 8, COWBOYS AND ALIENS, SUCKER PUNCH & RED STATE.
Also hoping Wirkola gets “Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters” out this year..doubtful though
Jason Bené Reply:

YOUR HIGHNESS looks great!
I would also add the Guillermo Del Toro’s produced remake DON’T BE AFRAID OF THE DARK.

Don’t like how Sally is now a kid, but it does look creepy.
Jon Reply:

I don’t see the hype behind Your Highness. I know it’s impossible just to pick 5 because 2011 is shaping up to be a fun genre year. Sherlock Holmes 2 anyone?
horrorchic Reply:
January 3rd, 2011 at 7:27 am
Still have to see the 1st Sherlock Holmes film, lol!
Haven’t really got a pick of the most anticipated movie so far (and it’s already February), but I would definitely want to see Sucker Punch and Source Code. The superhero movies line up looks awesome, and I hope they’ll be a good one to watch also.
Jon Reply:
February 11th, 2011 at 3:22 pm
True, the year is still just started, but it should be a really good one as the line-up keeps getting better each month.

Yeah, Sundance and SXSW are also filled with interesting flicks, so it’s a lively year for both the mainstream and indies. This year got almost everything for everyone, aliens, superheroes, fairy tales, I’m looking forward to them all.
Jon Reply:

Very exciting, indeed.
Like 2008, this is the year of the comicbook Superhero, with The Green Hornet being 1st out the gate.
Captain America
The Green Lantern
X-Men:1st Class
THOR
Have no real interest in the 1st two.
Still on the fence with X-Men, but plan to see THOR.
