February Movie Preview
Love and kisses…no, no, wait, let me explain. See, it’s almost February and whether you’re single or in a relationship, you must face Valentine’s Day, but February is also an interesting month for movies, as we get a chance to see two hotly anticipated films, as well as some chick flicks. I bet most will be heading to the theater since most of the nation is still blanketed in snow, so after the Super Bowl, what’s an 18-35 demographic to do? Go to the movies! You in luck. Let Donny Broussard and Jon Peters tell you to See It or Skip It for the films this month in Killer Film’s February Movie Preview!
(February 5th)
Frozen

Jon: Adam Green is a great guy, but I’m ready for him to really bust out into a huge film. With this, he (hopefully) goes for a small psychological terror, and while the trailer does little to excite, I’m there to see it. He does no wrong in the genre. See It
Donny: Adam Green is the man! So far the guy hasn’t mad a bad flick, and he hasn’t resorted to directing remakes. An army of Hollywood executives that hate original content couldn’t keep me away on opening night. See It
Dear John:

Jon: Okay, no “Dear John” jokes. Oh, Nicholas Sparks! Why do you do this to me? He writes these overly melodramatic tear jerkers, that girls just love. Can’t hate him for finding his niche, but I find these films to be way too similar and fake. But…let me put this out there to you female Killer Film fans…if you flood our comment box or our emails, demanding a review by us, I-as in Jon Peters-will in an unbiased form, review it for you all. Until then Skip It
Donny: Please ladies, I’m begging you, comment away so that Jon has to see this instead of me! Skip It
(February 12th)
The Wolfman

Jon:I am howling at the moon in anticipation for this. I grew up on the old Universal Monster films from the ’30s and ’40s, and have often said they were my first friends, and I feel like this film will capture that heyday. I say that even with the near 20 month delay, the reshoots, and behind-the-scenes drama. I think all of that will collide into one heck of a werewolf film. See It
Donny: What Jon said. See It
Beauty and the Beast (1991)

Jon:Now, this is a re-release, but it’s getting a huge push due to the upcoming 20 year anniversary of the picture (man, I’m old, I saw this theatrically!) and for Disney’s push into IMAX 3-D. I expect a following Blu-ray appearance, and after the success Toy Story had in 3-D, look for this to do okay. See It
Donny: I can’t wait to take my daughter to see this flick! No one does traditional animation like Disney. See It
Valentine’s Day

Jon: Now, films like this remind me why it is okay to be single. The plot: Couples break up and make up in L.A. do to the pressures and expectations of Valentine’s Day. Wow. Good thing I ain’t married like my boss, who will be forced to go to it! We laugh! Skip It
Donny: Laugh it up sir! Your right I am going to have to see this chick flick, but I’ll also be able to rant about it later in my review, provided it sucks as bad as I’m predicting it will. skip it, although I have to see it.
Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief

Jon: 2010 is sort of filled with these Harry Potter replacements, and I really don’t know if any of them will catch on. It looks okay, decent idea, and has Chris Columbus who started the whole Harry Potter film phenomenon. So it should pull in decent box office business, as it doesn’t look atrocious, but for Hollywood, is this the next Potter, because Inkheart, Narnia, Golden Compass, and others haven’t been…yet. See It
Donny: This flick seems boring to me. Who knows, maybe it’ll rock the box office, but until those numbers come in I’m gonna remain skeptical. Skepticism aside, I’m going to see it.
My Name is Khan

Jon: Lots of people are calling this a must watch, a Bollywood film worth getting excited for, and one made by real Indians, and not English slumdogs. Looks okay, and will be getting a decent, but small theatrical push. This is the arthouse release many might be seeing this month. See It
Donny: This is the arthouse flick I’m going to let Jon see this month. Skip It
(February 19th)
From Paris with Love

Jon:Taken was awesome, and the marketing team is really hammering that home in the ads, since this film’s director did Taken. But this will not be the next Taken. It looks generic and DTV. Maybe we’ll be surprised, but it looks to bland in my book. Skip It
Donny: The trailer doesn’t look terrible, I enjoyed Taken, so I’m gonna be there to see this one on opening night. See It
Shutter Island

Jon: A great cast in a genre picture, directed by Martin Scorsese? See It
Donny: I’m stupid excited to see Scorsese direct a genre picture. I am soooo there. See It
The Ghost Writer

Jon: This might be Roman Polanski’s last film for a good long time, now that he is in jail. Again, he has a some cast, interesting idea sans the generic title, so I’ll easily say see it because he’s rarely off, and it just might be your last Polanski film.
Donny: I’m not as big a fan of Polanski’s work as most film enthusiasts are, but I’m going to see it anyway.
(February 26th)
The Crazies

Jon: I love the original George A. Romero film, even though it’s not his best, I think it’s one that with its ideas, still holds up now. I also love the marketing this film has been getting; mysterious, catchy, and should temporarily stop people form comparing it to the 28 Days Later films. It could also prove to be a remake that actually improves on some from the original, without tainting it for that film’s fans. All that could change once opens, but until then I’m pretty excited. See It.
Donny: I am not a fan of remakes, but the trailer for this flick looks promising. See It
Cop Out

Jon: Say what you will, but Kevin Smith directing a buddy-cop movie could be absolute gold. So why does the trailer look so lifeless? And why isn’t his name being advertised? I know this script was hanging around for a while, but he did tinker with it. Again, it looks like a rare Kevin Smith ouch. Skip It.
Donny: I am a huge Kevin Smith fan, and while I’ll agree with Jon about the trailer I’m going to be there on opening night to support a true indie maverick. See It
It’s kind of a light month, even with some films expanding to a wider market, and some indie flicks finding a home at your local arthouse, but nonetheless, Killer Film will be here covering it all with reviews, interviews, and features all month long!
“The Wolfman” I’m definitely looking forward to, even if it is another remake.
Percy Jackson looks to be a fun film, but will probably wait til DVD.
I usually separate an artists personal life from their career, but in the case of “Ghost Rider” I can’t. I will NEVER see any film that rapist Polanski has made, ever.

I meant Ghost WRITER, not Rider.
With FROZEN, SHUTTER ISLAND, THE WOLFMAN, FROM PARIS WITH LOVE and THE CRAZIES coming out this month, my birthday is going to be awesome! (Feb 13th).
I’m going to see COP OUT only because it’s a Kevin Smith movie, but I don’t like Tracy Morgan, so I’m not too excited for this.
SHUTTER ISLAND and THE CRAZIES are the two I am the most excited for. Donny, I suggest you look for the best episode of AMAZING STORIES called Mirror, Mirror. Martin Scorsese directed it and it’s real intense for TV stuff.
PERCY JACKSON looks like a fun popcorn flick, I will Netflix it.
I’m still on the fence about FROZEN and THE WOLFMAN. Neither trailer has me pumped, and all the behind-the-scene drama on the latter might mean this film is going to kick the fans in the nards.

Wolfman doesn’t have nards….Wolfman’s got nards?
I can’t wait for Jon to see Dear John! I know he is such a hopeless romantic
Oh, Amy! LOL
