February Movie Preview
Usually, love is in the air in February because of the crappy holiday called Valentine’s Day. Bah! Our love is in the theaters, and Hollywood, after a dumping month in January, realizes this month can be a mini-summer month, as we see a few big budgeted films this month being released. But fear not lovers. Donny Broussard, Killer Film’s fearless head honcho, and Jon Peters, the site’s senior writer, will tell you what to see and skip with their usual wacky banter. So let’s get started!
(February 4th)
Sanctum

The IMDb plot (here): “A diving team experiences a life-threatening crisis during an expedition to an unexplored cave system.”
3D Option? Yes
Donny: I’m not at all interested in this flick. It looks like a boring direct-to-DVD movie that is capitalizing on James Cameron’s name. Skip it.
Jon: You know, you’re right, Donny. The trailer offers some typical, somewhat cheesy dialogue, yet I’ll give it a slight benefit of the doubt due to Cameron’s involvement. Why? 3D. Yes, I said it. This could be decent fun in 3D, and especially IMAX 3D for the claustrophobia. Plus, I’m in the mood for a good live-action 3D flick. See it.
The Roommate

The IMDb plot (here): “College student Sara finds her safety jeopardized after she’s assigned to a dorm room with a new roommate, Rebecca.”
3D Option? No
Jon:Yawn. Despite having some hotties in it (Minka Kelly, Danneel Harris, Leighton Meester, Cam Gigandet and Alyson Michalka), there’s nothing here that we haven’t seen 100 times before. A bitch of a roommate? Just Facebook block her. Geez. Skip it.
Donny: While I agree with Jon that it looks pretty generic, I’m gonna be there for the hotties. See it.
(February 11th)
The Eagle

The IMDb plot (here): “In Roman-ruled Britain, a young Roman soldier endeavors to honor his father’s memory by finding his lost legion’s golden emblem.”
3D Option? No
Jon: After a rotating door of title changes, my interest keeps getting pique with each still, each trailer. All of these ancient time genre films have that gritty, grainy cinematography now, but the family honor, the code, the fighting, I’m down for a new sword-and-sandals epic. See it.
Donny: I haven’t been following this flick’s birth, but it looks like it could be solid. I’m gonna see it.
(February 18th)
I am Number Four

The IMDb plot (here): “Nine alien teens come to Earth after their planet is destroyed by an enemy species. But soon discover that their enemy is now after them on Earth.”
3D Option? No
Donny: I’m pretty excited about this flick. It looks like the type of sci-fi epic that could be the foundation of a solid franchise. I’m absolutely gonna see it.
Jon: Remember Jumper? Remember Push? Granted this has some neat looking set pieces and based on a book series, but non-DC/Marvel superhero films rarely excite fans. Plus, it looks to run-of-the-mill for me. P.S. Micheal Bay produced this (meaning awesome explosions, poor plot). Skip it.
Unknown

The IMDb plot (here): “A doctor awakens from a coma, only to discover that someone has taken on his identity and that no one – not even his wife – believes him. With the help of a young woman, he sets out to prove who he is.”
3D Option? No
Donny: Hell yes I’m gonna, see it! I can’t wait to see Liam Neeson kick ass. From the moment I first read about this flick I was marking down possible release dates for it so I wouldn’t forget about it. Once again, just in case you missed it, I’m gonna see it.
Jon: Trust me, it’s Taken 2. But so? As long as the plot is decent enough, I’m sure this will be a lot of fun. However Liam went from the typecast of being the mentor to an action star is beyond me, but he doesn’t ever disappoint. See it.
(February 25th)
Drive Angry 3D

The IMDb plot (here): “A vengeful father chases after the men who killed his daughter.”
3D Option? Yes
Jon: Let us get passed that Nic Cage is in everything. The trailer has this vibe that it could either be goofy and campy in a bad way or in a good, fun, drive-in type of way. It’s hard to tell. Lussier’s last 3D film was a freakin’ blast (My Bloody Valentine 3D), so I’m hoping it’s one of those Late Night Classics. See it.
Donny: This flick looks like a great time at the movies. It’s not going to change the way we think, or cause people to form a cult based on its popularity, but I bet a bucket of popcorn, a large drink, a dark theater and this film will deliver the fun. See it.
February Spotlight
Vanishing on 7th Street

The IMDb plot (here): “When a massive power blackout causes a city’s population to vanish, a handful of survivors band together inside a tavern in an effort to survive as darkness approaches.”
3D Option? No
Jon: Brad Anderson has never disappointed me. Session 9. The Machinist. TransSiberian. So of course I’m totally stoked for what he’ll do to the apocalyptic thriller genre. See it.
Donny: Brad Anderson is the mother f**king man. I’m just saying… See it.
Keep it here all month long to Killer Film, the genre site of awesome, for reviews on these titles and more! What are you seeing or skipping and why? Comment below!

DRIVE ANGRY 3D, THE UNKNOWN and VANISHING ON 7th STREET are on the must see list for me.
THE EAGLE would be cool, but I can’t buy Channing Tatum in this role.
SANCTUM just looks horrible.

I already saw Vanishing on 7th Street and it’s pretty good. Not Anderson’s best, but still really suspenseful.
I’m giving The Eagle the benefit here, even though Tatum can be bland, but MacDonald’s Last King of Scotland was superb.

The Last King of Scotland was excellent, Forrest Whittaker deserved that Ocsar.
Channing Tatum seems like a nice guy, but he’s dull as dishwater as a actor.
Vanishing on 7th looks promising, despite that wooden plank Hayden Christensen being the male lead.

When I was working on SALT, my co-worker ad just come off of PUBLIC ENEMIES, and she said that Channing is a really great person. Super nice.

Would you bypass the trailer, just for what the 3D could bring to Sanctum?
This is a really strong month for cinema.
I have press screenings for VANISHING ON 7TH STREET and BLACK DEATH, as well as the LA premiere of DRIVE ANGRY 3D.

March is even stronger. Black Death goes wider then.
The Roomate: No thanks, I’ve already seen Single White Female.
I Am Number Four: I will keep my $10 in the pocket.
I am Number 4 looks okay. Weak month for me. Although my nephew told me to watch Drive Angry’s trailer, since I liked My Bloody valentine.
