Fantastic Fest 2010 Preview
Killer Film will be heading down to Austin, Texas, home of not only the Alamo Drafthouse, but the United States’ biggest genre film festival, Fantastic Fest. This year is no different, as the “geek Telluride” as Variety calls the festival, showcases some of the hottest soon-to-be released genre films, as well as, some of the upcoming hot titles, interesting short films, and a rotating door of who’s who in the genre community. Below is a Fanastic Fest 2010 Preview of what Killer Film finds interesting at the fest this year.
Hot New Releases

Most of the films that are playing here, attendees can see weeks or months prior to general audiences. Fans can look for early screenings of Adam Green’s Hatchet II, before its historical theaterical run. Darren Bousman’s Troma remake in Mother’s Day will premiere here too, and one wonders what horrors the Saw II and Repo! director will bring. Matt Reeves steadies the camera for his remake of the Swedish vampire film, in his Let Me In.

Fans can finally see the controversial Red, White, &Â Blue that has caused quite a stir in recent festival play. Also, look for the early premiere of the DC Comics adaptation in Red, the strange Rubber, and Zombie Roadkill.
Cool Retrospectives

Besides the first-run films, fans can revisit some oldies but goodies with From Beyond, X: The Man with X-Ray Eyes, The Last Starfighter, and Metropolis amongst many more. Even cooler, is that some of the cast and crew are in attendance for these films. Out of those, fans should check out an appreciation for Roger Corman at the Sharktopus screening. With the recent resurrection of his films on DVD, the man is still making movies and this will be the premiere of the Declan O’Brien directed SyFy movie. Should be a blast.
Other Interesting Titles

Besides the films that are on everyone’s to see list, let’s not forget about the premiere of the upcoming DTV sequel, 30 Days of Night: Dark Days from Sony before its October 5th Blu-ray and DVD release. Gasper Noe returns with his drug-induced nightmare in Enter the Void. Buried is playing as well, after the Sundance and TIFF praise. The Housemaid looks to impress, as the Korean remake of the similar titled 1960 film tries to creep fans out. After the international praise the first film got, as well as the numerous Hong Kong Awards, American fans can finally see Ip Man 2 which is regarded as an even better film than the first!
I Spit on Your Grave, Ong Bak 3, Rare Exports: A Christmas Tale, and many other interesting indie and shorts will be playing.
Due to either a rapidly changing schedule and/or scheduling conflicts, Killer Film will only be able to cover so much, but keep it here all next week for our exclusive coverage with some of the hottest reviews and more!
Follow the festival here.
Have fun, D! Maybe I can join you next year.
