Donny’s Halloween Watch List

Every Halloween the KillerFilm.com staff shares a list of the flicks that they plan on watching during the trick or treat season. This year I decided to skip my usual Halloween flicks (Trick or Treat, Fright Night, Monster Squad, Murder Party, etc.) and watch flicks that aren’t normally on my list. Here goes.

The Blob (1988)

I love this flick. It is one of the few remakes that is better than the original. Add to that the fact that it was shot in my home town and it gains instant Halloween Watch List cred.

Jack Brooks: Monster Slayer (2007)

This is such a solid creature feature. The effects look fantastic and the characters are funny. Perfect flick to pump you up for trick or treat.

Ghoulies (1985)

A cheap Gremlins rip off that is a hell of a lot of fun. The Ghoulies look cool, the setting is great, and the score is awesome. If your a fan of mischievous creatures this is the flick for you. It’s raunchier than most of the Gremlins-like flicks that followed in the ’80s and is worth watching more than once.

Ghostbusters (1984)

This flick speaks for itself. Who you gonna call on Halloween? Ghostbusters!

C.H.U.D. (1984)

Cannibalistic humanoid underground dwellers or C.H.U.D. as the title suggests is a fun cheesy horror romp that goes great with pizza and beer.

Satan’s Little Helper (2004)

A fun indie horror that I watch at least once a year. It’s mean spirited, funny, and has some pretty solid visual effects. Halloween horror done right.

The Pumpkin Karver (2006)

Another indie horror flick that surprised me. It has flaws, but it’s so much fun that I quickly overlooked those. Solid kills and a stellar Halloween setting.

Night of the Punks (2010)

Dan Riesser’s awesome short reminded me of how much fun can be had watching a movie. I can’t wait to see what Dan does next because if it’s anything like this awesome short it’ll quickly make its way onto my Halloween Watch List.

Dance of the Dead (2008)

Zombies, prom, and a bunch of nerds that save the day! It doesn’t get much better than this when it comes to indie zombie fun.

Night of the Demons (2009)

Adam Gierasch’s remake of this classic Halloween title is tons of fun. If your into Halloween, boobs (big awesome ones), blood, demons, and a rocking soundtrack, then this is the flick for you. Everyone is always complaining that filmmakers don’t make fun flicks anymore, but they obviously haven’t seen this one. It’s sexy gory fun that rocks as hard as a Slayer concert on Halloween night.

Have a happy Halloween and make sure to keep your eyes on KillerFilm.com.

Donny Broussard

I enjoy the types of films that used to dominate late night television in the '80s, spending time with my family, filmmaking, photography, Rubik's Cubes, Diet Pepsi, building old Shogun Warriors model kits, Canon cameras, comic books, AOR, coconut ice cream, mac & cheese, cold pizza, popcorn, nachos, UL Football tailgating, film festivals, reading, Barry Manilow (don't ask), films with both Goldie Hawn and Chevy Chase in them, Alf, Pac Man, 1979 Trans AMs, beer, Godzilla, Hooters (both the restaurant and ones girls like to keep hidden), and Bigfoot (he's real). I'm just saying.

  6. THE BLOB rocks hard! I’m a fan of Zombie’s work, but I’m happy he didn’t take this one on.

  7. The last thing I needed to see was THE BLOB conceived at a trailer park and to have it sporting a bandana and riding a motorcycle.

    Brad Reiter Reply:

That’d be pretty awesome in a horrible kind of way, actaully.

  8. Just had Satan’s Little Helper recommended to me, so I am definitely going to be checking that out.
