Dave Parker’s Halloween Watch List

The Hills Run Red is one of Killer FIlm’s favorite new horror flicks, so it is with great excitement that we present Director, Dave Parker’s Halloween Watch List! After peeping his list check out our review of his flick here, and then if you haven’t seen the flick add it to the top of your Netflix queue.

1. Creepshow – My generations Trick r’ Treat. George A. Romero and Stephen King gives us 5 jolting tales of comic book horror that are filled with great performances by Adrienne Barbeau, E.G. Marshal, Fritz Weaver, King himself and the man, Tom Atkins. You got zombies, bugs, a crate monster and meteor shit all effectively created by the one and only Tom Savini! What’s not to love?

2. Phantasm - A movie that feels like a waking nightmare. What kid after they see this didn’t want to be young Mike riding around on dirt bikes, driving that ‘Cuda, and facing down the denizens of killer cloaked dwarves and silver spheres lead by the ever sinister Tall Man? Filled with enough imagination for 10 movies!

3. Abbot and Costello meet Frankenstein – one for the kids or the kid at heart. One of the best horror comedies ever that gives you not one but three of the classic monsters. Filled with genuine laughs that are never at the monsters’ expense.

4. Alien – What can be said about Ridley Scott’s masterpiece that hasn’t already? In many ways a brilliant slasher movie in space, with a deliberate pace that twists the tension knots perfectly. Giger’s alien is the stuff of nightmares from its chest bursting entrance to it’s final terrifying multi-jawed form! The first and still the best.

5. The Fog – John Carpenter’s film is still one of the best ghost stories ever. Amazing atmosphere and executed with wonderful practical effects. The film builds its dread methodically, and has f/x great Rob Bottin as the water logged villain Blake. A great example of sometimes less is more.

6. The Descent -I had to throw something new in here among all the classics (really this list could go on for days). Neil Marshal’s film grabs you by the throat early on and never lets go. Filled with claustrophobia, a bevy of beautiful fleshed out characters, gore, and enough scares to keep you on the edge of your chair till the poetic and chilling (original) ending!

  1. Abbott and Costello meet Frankenstein is one of my favorite comedies ever, or at least at the top.

  2. Love the list Dave! :) Phantasm is always a treat! I always got creeped out when the kid cut off the tall man’s fingers….yeesh!

  3. It was tough for me not to put CREEPSHOW on my list. Romero and King nailed the spirit of EC Comics.
