It’s New Release Tuesday for August 5th, so let’s see what worth getting or skipping today!
The Counterfeiters
**DVD Pick of the Week** Winning the Best Foreign Language Film Oscar this past event, the film is a damn good piece of storytelling. If “4 Months, 3 Weeks, and 2 Days” or “Diving Bell and the Butterfly” were nominated, this film would’ve been completely forgotten. That’s not a knock on the film, read my DVD review today, but those films were art. This features a unique story within the Holocaust. A must see, regardless. Also on Blu Ray.
Extras:
-audio commentary
-interviews
-making of
Nim’s Island
I skipped this at the theaters, because there was nothing unique about it. Looked like another fantasy film and quite honestly, I’m sick of family-friendly fantasy films as of late. That’s not a good indication if this film is any good but I thought I read mixed views on it. Also on Blu Ray.
Extras:
-2 audio commentaries
-games
-deleted scenes
-making of
Rogue
There’s been a minor explosion of killer alligator films lately. I wonder the Freudian subtext on that, but honestly, are any of these any good? “Primeval” not so much, “Lake Placid 2” oh hell no, and as for this, it’s pretty decent. Directed by “Wolf Creek’s” director, it starts of interestingly but fades to clichéd fast, but we are talking about a killer croc movie, so don’t expect much. Considering the previous film of the director was a torture fest of gore, this one is light on bloodshed, so don’t be fooled by the “Extreme” logo on the cover.

-audio commentary
Star Trek: The Original Series Season 2
This is that revamped, CGI version of the classic series. I’ve heard wildly mix opinions on it: some like the subtle changes to the FX or hate it, ruins the purity of the original intentions. Decide for yourself.
Extras:
-documentary
Hollywood Chain Saw Hookers: 20th Anniversary Edition
Dudes, you got to love that title! I have never seen or heard of it, but I’m always down for seen some crazy ass 70s exploitation flick.
On the Blu Ray front, we have a light week, with the aforementioned titles on BD; we also have the “Starship Troopers” series all on Blu Ray and a live concert from KoRn, called “Live at the Monteux”. See you all next week and keep it here for more DVD reviews!
