Welcome to New Release Tuesday for July 1st!!!! Today’s article is a bit special as it’s this writer’s birthday, so let’s see what comes out and what you can buy me, hahaha.
Batman: The Movie
**DVD PICK OF THE WEEK**This is the first title to start to capitalize off of the Dark Knight coming out soon. This is the spin-off movie from that wacky TV series we either all love or hate. As a kid I enjoyed it immensely but now in the wake of what Frank Miller has done with the character in the comics and what Nolan has re-invented, it’s pretty cheesy. Hell, it was cheesy back when it came out. Nonetheless, we have a new special edition and it’s also on Blu Ray! Adam West in glorious 1080p!
Extras:
-2 audio commentaries
- 35th Anniversary interviews
-5 featurettes
Drillbit Taylor
A wacky comedy that I happily missed in the theaters, but personally, I only enjoy Owen Wilson when he’s in a Wes Anderson film, and not crud like this.
Extras:
-audio commentary
-deleted scenes
Vantage Point
I almost didn’t see this film just because every time I went to the theater, I saw the damn trailer. I saw a lot of movies last year and it was like nails-on-a-chalkboard when I heard Dennis Quaid say, “Stop. Rewind that.” Errr. Despite that I forced myself to see it and although it was a gimmick film, it was kind of fun. Also on Blu Ray.
My Blueberry Nights
Here’s a film I actually know little about. Without me say something stupid, I’ll let Donny’s review of the DVD this week point you to a buy, rent, or skip.
Get Smart’s Bruce and Lloyd in Out of Control
As funny as they were in the remake, can they actually hold a film on their own? Also on Blu Ray.
Walk with Me in Hell
This is the new Lamb of God documentary and if it’s anything like “Killadelphia” or the making of “Sacrament”, fans and metal lovers will be happy. While “Killadelphia” showcased the band through their attitudes and live footage, that was marked by the great Randy and Mark fight. “Sacrament” was a thorough detailing of creating an album and this one apparently details the touring life.
That’s pretty much it has there are some Criterion titles and some Blu Ray titles like “Gangs of New York” that street today. Next week, after my birthday hangover, we’ll look at some more Batman films, The Ruins, Stop-Loss, and more. Check back soon!
