Welcome to another New Release Tuesday! Here’s a rather light week but there’s a few interesting titles to take a look at. Let’s go!
The Eye
I missed this in theaters mostly because Jessica Alba was just in a recent horror movie and I felt like both were avoidable. Apparently, “The Eye” isn’t as bad as you’d think, but it’s mediocre. This is probably worth a rental but nothing more. Also on Blu Ray.
Extras:
-audio commentary
-digital copy
Control
**DVD PICK OF THE WEEK** You know those awesome black and white photos of your favorite bands? This film is masterfully constructed to feel like a moving photo collection. Also, the film is beautifully acted and worth owning. While this might be a conventional music biopic, it delivers more heart and emotions than “Ray” or “Walk the Line” and in case you don’t know it’s about Joy Division, a young punk band from England during the late ‘70s and the following rise to fame and suicide of the lead singer, Ian.
Extras:
-audio commentary
-Joy Division music videos
Machine Girl
I need to see this as it looks like a crazier version of “Kill Bill”. It’s getting a lot of hype as a fun, ultra-gory, B-movie. Just find the trailer to see what I mean.
Meet the Spartans
Is there anything more tired than this spoof genre? Lame. Even lamer on Blu Ray too.
Extras:
-trivia track
-4 features
-audio commentary
Semi-Pro
Oh, wait…I stand corrected. Another sports comedy by Will “Unfunny” Farrell. Rental at best. Also on Blu Ray.
Extras:
-extra scenes
-making of
Dirty Harry Ultimate Collection
Also sold separately but this bundle looks impressive. Get down with these bad ass films of the iconic cop and make your day. Also on Blu Ray.
Extras:
-audio commentaries
-documentaries
-interviews
On Blu Ray
Cloverfield
Nothing new here, just a 1080p version of the monster fest.
There Will Be Blood
I thought the DVD transfer was lacking and I would’ve held out for this if I knew about it. Damn, Paramount. No new extras.
Other titles and TV
Weeds Season 3, Incredible Hulk Seasons 3 and 4, Chips Season 2, Animation Show! Volume 3, Flawless, The Skull, and Rescue Me Season 4.
There you go, now go out and shop! Next week we’ll look at the American remake of
Funny Games, The Bucket List, The Signal, Jumper, and a few others.
