Zemeckis is on a Yellow Submarine

Submitted by Melissa Molina on January 12, 2010 – 10:52 amOne Comment

The last time we saw anything pertaining to filmmaker Robert Zemeckis was Disney’s A Christmas Carol. Even though a lot of us got really excited when we heard the fabulous news about Roger Rabbit 2, Zemeckis has other things simmering in development and one of those is the Beatles’ Yellow Submarine.

Yes, I’m scratching my head wondering how this came up as well.

Actors Cary Elwes, Peter Serafinowicz, Adam Campbell and Dean Lennox Kelly are all on board to take on each of the Beatles in the remake of the animated feature. Elwes will be portraying George Harrison, Kelly playing Lennon, Serafinowicz playing McCartney and Campbell will be playing Ringo Starr.

The original 1968 animated movie was based on the music by the Beatles and featured a storyline wherein a soldier called Old Fred meets up with the Beatles and travels in a yellow submersible to Pepperland (THR). Zemeckis is going to go nuts on the animation as always, using the same kind of motion capture animation that he used for previous films such as Beowulf and A Christmas Carol. The film will be presented in 3D as well, which could make for an interesting experience for this strange tale.
