Wtf? Day of the Triffids remake?
According to Deadline, yes. “Mandate Pictures, on behalf of Sam Raimi, has won a bidding war for the rights to produce The Day of the Triffids, with Raimi in line to direct (as it was his favorite film as a child). A shower of meteorites produces a glow that blinds anyone that looks at it. As it was such a beautiful sight, most people were watching; and as a consequence, 99% of the population go blind. In the original novel, this chaos results in the escape of some Triffids: experimental plants that are capable of moving themselves around and attacking people.”
Um…no. It’s been a few years since I caught the original, and that film, no matter the camp appeal or B-movie goodness, isn’t a good film in the slightest. Yes, Raimi is bonkers and Drag Me to Hell proved he still has it for horror, but a Day of the Triffids remake? Seriously?
