Will Spider-man be cast soon?

Ever since Marc Webb has signed on as director of Sony/Columbia Picture’s Spider-man reboot, we’ve been waiting to see who will be cast as the wall-crawler.

According to Deadline Hollywood, the studio has been overseeing the screen tests of many of the actors they are seriously considering for the role. Nobody has gotten the job, and it is possible that more will be actors will be added. Those who were tested are Jamie Bell, who is rumored to be the top choice, Anton Yelchin, Aaron Johnson, Andrew Garfield, Logan Lerman, and Alden Ehrenreich. Frank Dillane and Michael Angerano are also among the lists of finalists. No word if Angerano was tested, but Dillane reportedly dropped out to attend drama school.

The studio is looking to cast the role soon so they can move onto the supporting cast. I’m surprised to see Lerman’s name dropped into the mix. It was announced twice that he wasn’t involved with the film in anyway. He’s my top choice for the role, and, in my opinion, perfect for a young Peter Parker.

This reboot is said to be a more realistic and emotional portrayal of the character than shown in the previous films. Alvin Sargent is still working on the script written by Jamie Vanderbilt.  Laura Ziskin and Avi Arad will serve as producers. The film is scheduled to be released in July of 2012, and should begin production by the end of the year.  Marc Webb will be directing the film in 3-D.
