Why a Whedon Buffy movie won’t happen

After seven seasons of a great genre show, Buffy the Vampire Slayer has been rumored for a big screen re-debut with star Sarah Michelle Gellar. Interestingly, a site called ShowbizSpy claims the reason us Scoobies won’t see a Buffy the Vampire Slayer movie anytime soon, is because of a High School Musical star. Vanessa Hudgens claims that Buffy is “too old-school” since we all live in a post-Stephanie Meyers world.

“She felt that with Twilight still so massive Buffy would not be the best option right now. The idea was to have Sarah back but with Vanessa as a fresh, new character. The project has been shelved for now,” says someone close to Hudgens.

The Twilight Saga: Eclipse is set to be one of 2010′s biggest box office grossing films and her claims have a shred of tangibility, but this just rubs us Scoobies the wrong way. Thoughts?
