What if Superman Returns 2 was made?
Moviehole had a cool interview with Micheal Dougherty, the screenwriter of Bryan Singer’s Superman Returns and they asked what was being planned for a sequel that will would never get. Now with Warner giving 300‘s Zack Snyder a shot at another resurrection of the iconic hero (here) in The Man of Steel, we will never see what Dougherty and Singer were planning.
“The first one was a romantic film and a nostalgic film,” he said in a 2008 interview. “I’ll be the first person to own up to that without making any apologies for it. I knew it was going to be that from the outset. And now that the characters are established, there’s really an opportunity to up the threat levels…Clearly there’ll be a body count [laughs]. From frame one, it will be unrelenting terror!”
He continues on the film’s potential villains: “Other Kryptonians – I’ll be purposely vague about that [but] Brainiac was always interesting. I feel like a lot of the stuff that we had taken out [of Superman Returns] – either stuff that we had shot and got cut, or stuff that was cut from the script – could have helped [the film] more. I see all the potential that it had – I love action, so I wanted action, and I was the guy in the room who kept whining about wanting a super villain.”
Interesting. This comes after some proposed Tim Burton-directed Superman Lives photos came online (here).
It does make me sad as a fan of Superman Returns they never got a chance at another film, however I don’t know if I could have handled another film with Kate Bosworth as Lois.
She was too young for the Lois they needed.

Yeah and she just wasn’t right in the role. I thought Brandon Routh was great, he was more Clark Kent than Superman. Other aspects were great, while others not so much but still …
I’m probably too much of a fangirl hehe
Didn’t care much for the 1st film, one of my least favorite in the series. Right down there with Super Girl and Superman IV:The Quest for Peace.
