Warner Brothers Eats DC Comics
In a move obviously to compete with Disney’s acquisition of comic book giant Marvel, Warner Brothers has gone and created DC Entertainment, Inc. The move is set to “fully realize the power and value of the DC Comics brand and characters across all media and platforms.” Diane Nelson, former president of Warner Premiere, is set to helm the DC endeavor. Nelson and Warner Premiere were responsible for the recent straight-to-DVD releases of DC characters. Warner Brothers recently froze production on all DC franchise prior to to move.
According to Nikki Finke of Deadline|Hollywood, current president and publisher of DC Comics Paul Levitz is to become a writer and consultant for DC Entertainment, while a new executive publisher is found.
While this would have been a pretty decent move a few months ago, doing this to directly compete the super-duper-mega-giganta-congomerate Disney seems fruitless. But hopefully it will prove beneficial.
