Vergara loves her Smurfs

The curvaceous Modern Family actress Sofia Vergara is the latest to get in on the live action sector of the hybrid feature The Smurfs. Vergara will portray Odile, a powerful executive at a high-end French cosmetics company who is married to the live-action character played by Neil Patrick Harris (THR). The live action and animation feature is being directed by Raja Gosnell, who’s previous credits include Beverly Hills Chihuahua and Yours, Mine and Ours.

The story, penned by scribes David N. Weiss and J. David Stem, is about a mythical race of little blue creatures that must deal with each other and humans, particularly an evil sorcerer obsessed with capturing them for his own sinister purposes. Already lending their voice to the feature is Katy Perry, Jonathan Winters, George Lopez, Alan Cumming, Kevin James with Neil Patrick Harris and Hank Azaria making up some of the live action cast.

The Sony Pictures Animation and Columbia Pictures feature comes out in theaters on July 29th, 2011.
