Update on Avatar in the Box Office

Okay, so we just reported the other morning on the E! Online report that Avatar was already starting to surpass Titanic on the international box office. Well, James Cameron outdid himself once more, making his CGI animated/live action hybrid feature Avatar the number one film in the box office worldwide.

At this point, who’s surprised?

Avatar managed to reach up to $1,861.8 Billion in the worldwide box office while Titanic stays forever dormant at $1,843.2 Billion, says Box Office Mojo. Unfortunately at this point a great number of us are afraid that since Avatar took in that much money that it will be nearly inevitable that it will take the Academy Award this year for Best Picture, but we’ll see about that. The announcements for the 82nd Annual Academy Awards take place on February 2nd at 5 AM PST, and you bet your ass that we’ll be up early covering who gets nominated.
