Trying to squeeze out a sequel to Avatar

Submitted by Melissa Molina on February 3, 2010 – 11:50 amOne Comment

At this point a great deal of us are as tired of reading about James Cameron’s blockbuster giant Avatar as I am with reporting it. Never the less, it looks like the craze could still continue even after the Academy Awards comes and goes thanks to News Corp. already chatting it up to the famed director of making a sequel to the visually stunning feature. Here’s a little more on the scoop from The Hollywood Reporter.:

Asked about potential “Avatar” sequels, chairman and CEO Rupert Murdoch said on his quarterly earnings call Tuesday that the conglomerate is in “very early talks about it.” Director James Cameron “has ideas” for a sequel, he said, adding: “We will be pushing for one.” But he cautioned analysts not to “hold your breath for an early one” in a possible reference to Cameron projects often taking a long time to come to fruition.

Right now Avatar has several nominations under it’s belt for the 82nd Annual Academy Awards after yesterday morning. Among those are noms for Best Picture, Director, Art Direction, Cinematography, Film Editing, Original Score, Sound Editing, Sound Mixing and Visual Effects. Let’s see not only if this actually happens but how long it will take Cameron to put together the feature.

I’ve heard that the sequel could be like an all-out war movie, which would be cool. Although, I’m still(and will always be) of the mind that this film doesn’t need a sequel.
