Transformers 3 will have even more comedy

Michael Bay will have a tough time keeping fans interested in Transformers: The Dark of the Moon after a lackluster sequel. One thing Bay mentioned (here) that he’ll fix is less goofball humor that was present throughout the previous film, and was also getting rid of The Twins (Skids and Mudflap).

However, the characters were spotted on set not long after that announcement, and it seems there will be even more humor present this time.

In an interview with IGN, producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura tells us what to expect from this film. “What you can expect is more comedy than we’ve ever had before”, he said. This may be bad news for many who felt Bay’s humor got out-of-hand many times throughout Transformers 2. Even those who supported the last film thought a few scenes, most notably Devastator’s testicles, over-shadowed the film’s dark tone. Hopefully, Bay features a bit more mature humor this time.

While you may not like the idea of more comedy in the film, di Bonaventura assures us the action will be even better. “You can expect bigger action sequences than we’ve ever had before”,he said. He also mentions that Sam Witwicky (Shia Lebeouf) will have more character development that wasn’t really present in the last film. “You can expect a different character through-line for our lead because he’s a little bit older and Rosie’s a little bit older – there’s a maturity there that didn’t exist before”, he said. There will also be “emotional elements”  that will help Lebeouf’s character develop. So, it does seem as if Bay will be making a couple of the same mistakes from the last film, but also improving on others.

Transformers: The Dark of the Moon opens on July 1, 2011.
