Transformers 3 will also get a 3D post-conversion (Updated)

Ever since Transformers 3 was confirmed to be released in 3D there’s have been conflicting reports about the process that will be used. There were earlier reporter (here) that Bay will be shooting the film in 3D, then an insider claimed (here) the film will be getting the much-hated post-conversion process. Now, Director of Photography Vince Pace (Avatar) reveals just which process will be used for Transformers: The Dark of The Moon.

In an interview with Moviefone about the upcoming Avatar: Collector’s Edition, Pace revealed they’ll be shooting and post-converting the film in 3D. “They’re doing both,” he said. So, this may be even more bad news than knowing Bay will be putting even more humor (here) into the film. Pace is aware of the negativity about post-converting the film, but is confident they can make a quality conversion. “I think the denationalization quotient, if you will, can work if you have enough time, if you have the right talent behind it, and some money to back it, you’re in a good place to work in it. Because it’s part art, part time, and it’s part technology,” he said. Producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura has stated (here) that not all of the film will shot in 3D, but how much of the film will be post-converted?

Filming was rumored (here) to be ending around this time, but that would be leaving out the international locations, which are being kept secret. One reason Pace mentions that a post-conversion has yet to work was because directors didn’t allow enough time to work on the conversion. That was evident with Clash of the Titans, which only allowed for a month to work on the conversion that gave post-conversion it’s bad reputation. It was also the reason WB canceled a 3D release for Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows. All it really takes for is enough work and time put into the process and it can work.

Update: Nelson, Michael Bay’s forum administrator confirms the news, but mentions it will only feature “very little” post-converted.

Transformers: The Dark of The Moon opens on July 1, 2011.
