Top contenders to direct The Hunger Games
Like the Twilight series, Suzanne Collins’ The Hunger Games has a wide following amongst teenagers and adults. This means the studios are looking to get film adaptations out quickly. Now, Lionsgate has narrowed down the list of directors to only three.
Deadline Hollywood reports that David Slade (The Twilight Saga: Eclipse), Gary Ross (The Tale of Despereaux), and Same Mendes (Revolutionary Road) are the top three contenders to direct the film. Lionsgate just recently got the script that was re-written by Billy Ray, and will be meeting with Slade, Ross, and Mendes next week. Collins’ novel is about a ”16-year old from a poor territory that was once Appalachia, who becomes a teen gladiator in a reality show event that is a battle to the death against other teens from the 12 districts that make up what is left of the USA, which is run by a cruel totalitarian government.”
Andrew Adamson’s name has also been mentioned, but it’s down to the Slade, Ross, and Mendes. Slade is also in talks to direct Twentieth Century Fox’s X-men Origins: Wolverine 2, and if he gets the job, this film could interfere with that. Sam Mendes is also set to direct Bond 23, but progress on that film probably won’t be happening too soon. There’s no word on when production is expected to begin.
I should be Katniss.
It’s like I’ve trained my whole life for it and it’s my absolute dream!!
We all know Chloe Mortez is just a few years too young, too small, and too light to be Katniss. no amount of dark brown hair dye and tanning will look right on her with her features.
