To Muppet or not to Muppet?

Submitted by Melissa Molina on January 29, 2010 – 1:31 pm4 Comments

Flight of the Conchords writer and director James Bobin is being offered to go and direct the next Muppet movie under Walt Disney Pictures, states Vulture. This is huge news for fans of the Muppets, seeing that the last time they released one of their movies theatrically technically was The Adventures of Elmo in Grouchland that was released all the way back in 1999. The script is written by Forgetting Sarah Marshall star Jason Segel and director Nicholas Stoller, which keeps on making this news sound better and better by the minute.

However, its not all completely falling into place as much as we all would like for it to be. At the same time that this offer came up for Bobin, a second one emerged for him to helm the latest Apatow written comedy entitled Bridesmaids under Universal Pictures. Now the real question is whether or not he’ll go for puppetry or go for raunchy jokes.

If he ends up going to Bridesmaids, can we finally get the Dracula puppet rock opera from Forgetting Sarah Marshall made into an actual little play?

UPDATE: Bobin has ended up choosing the untitled new Muppet movie. Can we still have a Dracula puppet musical regardless?
