To be or not to be a Taxi Driver remake

After the rumor mill went absolutely crazy at the start of this week with news of Martin Scorsese teaming up with Lars von Trier and Robert De Niro over a Taxi Driver remake, a lot of us were ready to get the final word from any of the three as to whether or not it was true. Thankfully Scorsese came out to The Vulture and cleared the record on the status of this possible remake.:

We caught up with Scorsese last night at an Armani event honoring the famed director and his muse, Leonardo DiCaprio, and the director denied any plans for a reboot. While he admitted that he and von Trier “have met,” he says they “were talking, but not about Taxi Driver.”

This comes as a huge sigh of relief for many who dreaded the thought of Taxi Driver being remade, especially after Peter Aalbaeck Jensen opened his mouth and first spilled out the thought to the general public. This Friday we get another dose of Scorsese as the long-awaited thriller/mystery Shutter Island finally comes out in theaters everywhere. Check the local show times and try not to miss this feature, especially since it’s the only one that’s coming out in wide release this weekend.
