Three more delayed by MGM

The news coming from MGM’s financial problems is getting uglier and uglier with each moment. It has already lead to the delay of The Hobbit, Bond 23, and a remake of Red Dawn. Now, three more films are reportedly delayed.

While Deadline Hollywood is reporting the next steps on where MGM should go, they reveal some not so surprising news about many films in development from the studio. The Three Stooges adaptation seemed to be moving forward quickly, with Sean Penn and Benicio Del Toro set to star. However, that doesn’t matter anymore as that film has been delayed.

Also, the Robocop reboot has been been stalled indefinitely too. The last we heard on it was that Darren Aronofsky was still attached, but wasn’t willing to have the film converted to 3-D. The next film that’s to be delayed is The Matarase Circle, an adaptation of Robert Ludlum novel. The film was set to star Tom Cruise and Denzel Washington, but David Cronenberg dropped out of the director’s chair.

If there’s any good news to come from this, it’s that Spyglass Entertainment may take control of MGM. The merger will cut the marketing and distribution branches of MGM, but will save costs. Lionsgate and Summit Entertainment are also being considered to save the studio. It almost doesn’t matter what company buys the studio as fans are eager to see The Hobbit and the next Bond film.

  1. The Hobbit can help save MGM. It would be a shame to see a company with so much history go down.
