The search for Superman begins
As with Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises, many casting rumors have surrounded Zack Snyder’s Superman reboot. Unlike Batman, the role of Superman/Clark Kent has yet to be filled, but it seems that Snyder and producer Christopher Nolan are getting the ball rolling to search for the next Superman.
Deadline Hollywood reports that Snyder and Nolan are casting a “wide net” of actors to find next actor to portray the Man of Steel. According to insiders, Snyder is looking for an unknown or someone from a TV show, and wants to create a star from this reboot. It’s said that someone should be within the age range of 28-32. That will guarantee the actor to be old enough to look the part, but young enough to not worry about re-casting when a sequel or third film comes around. It’s expected that hundreds of actors will be tested before a decision is made.
It would probably be impossible for fan-favorite Jon Hamm (Mad Men) to even consider the idea of playing Superman. Not only is Hamm already past the age-range, but production is looking to begin next June, and would interfere with his role in Mad Men. However, this could open the door for another fan-favorite, Tom Welling (Smallville). Brandon Routh (Superman Returns, Scott Pilgrim vs. The World) has also been said to be considered for the role (here), but it’s unknown if he’s still up for it. We could see yet another drawn-out casting as with Marc Webb’s Spider-Man reboot.

- Anne Hathaway wanted as Lois Lane? | KillerFilm - [...] is officially underway. We’ve already heard the requirements for Snyder next Man of Steel (here), and we should hear ...

To me Tom welling would be the perfect choice….he would be done Smallville and have his whole schedule open…and to me he fits the role perfectly. He is also in the age range and not a big star yet……we’ll see I guess. I heard last week that they need to finish casting at the end of November….so we should know soon.
I’m over Tom Welling. I want my 30 year old Superman, no more boys.
I’d be happy with either Tom Welling or Brandon Routh. Both of them have done a stellar job of portraying the man of steel already.
I think Welling is too associated with Smallville to work in this reboot. Joe Manganiello is the perfect choice IMO.

This is what I was thinking. They might want to distance themselves from the show. This isn’t supposed to be a movie version of SMALLVILLE.
I’d rather go with someone who knows the part well…like welling or routh..
If this is to be a true reboot, Snyder probably should go with an unknown. Or an actor who isn’t connected to the Superman universe in any way, shape or form.
Note: Please ban Nic Cage form all casting calls.
